Hi, my name is Kathy and I just had gastric sleeve surgery on June 21st. I am transitioning to pureed foods right now and having trouble with drinking enough water. It tastes so bland. Having a bottle of water with the increments noted sounded like a good idea, but I dislike warm water, which happens when it sits while you drink all day. The artificial sugar in Crystal Light and other products leave a taste for me. Any suggestions on what to drink?

Hi Kathy I like to drink Vitamin Water Zero . I’m one and a half years out from bypass and I drink it a lot. When I first had the surgery I was drinking Propel which is pretty good too. In case you don’t like to drink just plain water. I also drank a lot of plain water Too though before and after the surgery

Hi Kathy, I know what you mean about those huge water bottles with increments on them. I like cold water too so I tend to use the same type of glass that I know how many ounces it holds. Then I keep track of how many times I refill it but to be honest, I sometimes forget to mark it down. I've tried a lot of those crystal light mixes and only found one or two that I like. Wylers peach tea is my favorite. I don't have it all day but rather late in the day when I'm trying to push more water into me. Because I like the taste of that one, it just goes down easier. You might also want to try lemon or lime slices, cucumber slices and a sprig of mint is good too. And there is also some herbal tea infusions that get brewed cold. I hope maybe something might help you get that water in. Experiment with different things! Good luck!

I also am a huge fan of COLD water. Get an insulated cup, add ice and keep track of how many glasses you have. As the ice melts, it just becomes water, so if it's a 20oz glass, I count 20oz even with the space ice takes up. You can drink herbal teas iced if you like the flavor of that. Or you can add fruits and/or fresh herbs to infuse your water with a little flavor. Lemon and Basil is my favorite. I also really like the Wylers Light, but I like the Island Punch flavors .. which taste like childhood. If your mom made Kool-Aid that was slightly too sweet lol

These cups will keep water cold and retain the ice in it for 24 hours in normal indoor conditions, and many hours outdoors in the sun too. These are 40oz, but I also use similar 32 and 24 oz sizes. The brand is Reduce, which I like, but I'm sure there are other good alternatives. They have been great to have ice-cold water on hand all day.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but anticipated this being a problem for me. I like everything I drink icey cold. I carry metal 64 oz insulated water bottle around with me everywhere. I fill it about 1/3 with ice and it stays cold all day. I cannot use this after surgery for 2 reasons, first it had a straw, second, no way to see how much water intake at any given time.

My solution is buying another metal insulated bottle with a pour top. It is a smaller bottle too, holds 24 oz, I think. I also bought a box of plastic 2 oz disposable cups. So after my surgery, I will keep my cold water near me, and pour 2oz cup, log it when I drink it. I don't have to throw the cups away after each use, but will probable get a new one out each day.

I am also going to use another insulates bottle for protein water. I will use the 2 oz cups to measure intake for this as well.

What kind of protein water do you drink and where can you find it?

I had a hard time getting in enough water too. Even now, I just don’t feel very thirsty. But it’s almost a year out and it’s easier to make myself drink enough.

When I first had my surgery a couple of sips of water filled me up for an hour! I could get full just swallowing my saliva, that’s how small my stomach felt!

If it’s the taste, or lack thereof then any of the suggestions people made might work for you. I like fresh lemon and a couple of strawberries in my water with a pack of Splenda and ice. I also like the Mio Energy, Black Cherry flavored is my favorite.
