hello everyone i'm new here,i had my lapband converted to the gastric bypass three weeks ago ,having a hard time , been in the hospital twice since surgery, having a hard time getting my water in and proteins.any advice?
When did you have the surgery? I have heard other have done the same. Did you have the RnY? I had that and I found it very diffficult to get enough water and protien the first week just because the pouch is so small, so I would sip on water or crystal light all day and have three protien shakes a day, it wasn't easy but a shake in the am one at noon and the other around five in the evening seemed to get me the protien I needed. Since the protein shakes count towards your fluid intake you might try finding a shake that has a high protein content. Costco and Sam's club carry a good tasting protein shake called Premier that has 30 grams of protein in one 11 ounce shake. If you focus on sipping this shake throughout the day you should be able to drink 3 each day (sip, sip, sip). If you can do this you will have had 90 grams of protein and 33 ounces of fluids. Sip another 15 ounces of water, bouillon, Crystal Light or whatever your favorite sugar free, caffeine free, non-carbonated beverage is and you will have met your minimum requirements for the day. If you pour the Premier shakes in a thermal cup and add a lot of ice and manage to sip the shake and melted ice until it is gone you will probably be at 48 ounces of fluid. These shakes come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry but I haven't managed to find the strawberry yet. I like the vanilla better than the chocolate!
water is the hardest or me. I bought a 64 oz container and mixed water with sugar free flavors and sip on it all day long. there are some really goodd proteinshakes out there, just watch for sugar free low carb brand. I think pat found one that is 35 gm protein and you need 70 grams of protein a day . It's hard because you can only tolerate a few sips at a time. for right now you can do only what you can but be consistent it will come along. I believe in the early stages the more help you can get by doing the easiset method to gett in protein and shakes will do it. hope to here from you patti
I had lap band on 12/08 and had it converted to the rouxen y on 2/23/12 , I had alot of nausea the first two week and was in the hospital most of the first two weeks. Could not drink the protein shakes so pretty much lived off water and iv's,now I'm on mushy foods but not getting enough protein. I did buy the unjury unflavored but still can taste it in foods.Having a really hard time adjusting , its harder than i thought.
