Hi, I am new to this site and the whole Gastric By Pass surgery....I had my surgery on Jan 3, 2011 and did great during the 8 weeks I followed the diet plan. now that I am able to have the "normal" foods I seem to have hit a platuea where no weight is coming off.

I follow as much as I can and need some new ideas and tips as to what to do differently. I have seen and meet people who had their surgery wks after me and have lost more than me already...it is very discouraging. Why is this?

I know alot of my issue is boredome at home all day, and the walls are closing in on me....But I gotta find other avenues to help me stay ontrack....I have not foound anything other than ice cream that really does not agree with me...(which I feel is a BAD THING) and the only other problems I have is learning to eat slowly and chew longer taking longer to eat...

Any advice or help would be greatly welcomed

Thank you

Tracy

HOW HAS YOUR JOURNEY BEEN SO FAR? DID IT TAKE YOU A YEAR TO BE ABLE TO EAT MORE THAN JUST LIQUIDS? MY KIDS AREN'T SO FOND OF ME HAVING THE SURGERY, SAYING STUFF LIKE" YOU KNOW YOU'RE GONNA REGRET IT WHEN YOU SEE US EATING FOODS YOU CAN NEVER HAVE AGAIN, OR YOU COULD DIE ETC. I KNOW WHAT THERE SAYING IS TRUE BUT I CAN'T CONTINUE TO BE OBESE AND BE HAPPY, I PLAN TO REACH MY HEALTHY WEIGHT AND KEEP IT OFF, AND IF IT TAKES THESE DRASTIC MEASURES TO DO THAT, THEN SO BE IT. DID YOU HAVE OTHERS TRYING TO TELL YOU TO NOT HAVE YOUR SURGERY?
WISHING YOU CONTINUED SUCCESS AS YOU BECOME A HEALTHIER YOU, I LOVE TO TALK SO IF YOU NEED SOMEONE TO SHARE STORIES WITH, I'LL GLADLY LISTEN AND RESPOND.

exercise, swim, walk, some kind of activity. calories i calories out. everone loses at their own pace. It took me 18 mo to lose 120 lbs. I never deviated from the diet and every carb made me sick. after 5 years your body will receive carbs without much effort and you start putting on th lbs.slowly so now I am on track again and within 40 lbs of my ideal weight. take it from my experience stay on your diet.3 meals and 2 snacks ,64 oz. ofwater, avoid white breads, pogtatoes, pastas, and carbs like junk food. hope this helps write to me..patti

Hi Tracy, Welcome. I've got to agree with Patti on all her points. Most importantly you have noticed most foods don't bother you, so stay away from them as much as possable and focus on the high protien foods and keep working on chewing everything until it is mush. You have been doing great on the weight loss so don't lose sight of that, I like to stay away from the word diet and call it a meal plan, I have been on many diets so meal plan sounds better to me LOL:D We all plateau while our body catches up with us, sometimes we are gaining muscle while we lose fat so it seems like a plataeu so remember to take mesurents, that helps us to see that we are still losing weight while the scale stops moving. If it persists for a month or so or you are just a little concerned call your dietitian and discuss your meal plan with them just to make sure your on the right track and keep going to your local support group if you have one if not see if you can find one in your area. Don't forget to get somekind of exercise every day. Keep up the good work. Tom

tracy, I remember them telling me not to spend more than 20minutes eating a meal,if you find yourself grazing(conttinued slow eating all day)that is not good. don't forget about your water.feel free to e-mailme...patti
