Welcme to the forum. Your surgeon or dietitian should have given you explicit instructions for your pre-surgical preparation. Included should be diet and medication instructions. If you haven't gotten this you need to contact them immediately. Since each surgeon has different instructions you shouldn't be using advice from someone else. I noticed you don't have a surgery date so that's probably why you haven't gotten your instructions yet. When the time comes you will be given printed material which will explain everything you need to know.
Hi Cali, Welcome. Pat's right you will get a lot of directions from the doctors, surgion and nutritionists. It is very important to follow there directions. You will have to go on a liguid diet for a minimum of a week before surgery, if i remember corectly. so you should probably look around for some protien shakes that taste good to you, but don't stock up too much because what taste good pre surgery may not taste good post surgery, if you can get sampler packets and try some of the pre mixed stuff that will give you a head start on protien shakes.
Another common theme after seeing the nutritionist is they tell you to start chewing your food real well, until it is liquid like, because after the surgery, when they say you can eat solid food (that will be part of your instructions) your new stomach will not be able to tolerate your meal unless it is chewed up real well. If you have gotten a list of vitamins you should be taking, find a vitamin store that has good quality vitamins and you can also check out some of the on line stores to get your bariatric supplies, I do both, I live in a very small town but we have a hippie store that carries some great vitamins.
That is about all I can think of but all the pre op instructions cover envrything very well on what you are supposed to do, but not about the emotions you will feel pre and post op so feel fre to ask. Most of us are more than happy to share how we felt in the stages leading up to and post suregery. It is a big step on a journey to a healthier happier you. Let us know how you are doing. Tom
