Hi I;m new to the group, I had a RYN done Dec/23/2008 did well until may of last year , I had 4TIAs within 10 days . I have Sycope where my blood pressure drops really fast with no warning, goes down to 77/35 at times usually with prolong standing and faster I move. I was put on steriods for 7 months . and gained 30lbs. monday I start the 5 day Pouch test, hope it works , and I can get myself back on line.

Hi Lisa, I hope you have gotten the Syncope under control, is there a treatment beside steroids? It sounds scary. Steroids are more than likely what caused your weight gain, they are notoriuos for increased weight and high blood surgars, so if you are off the steriods now you should be able to get back on track fairly quickly, I think the 5 day pouch test will give you a good jump start too. Let us know how it goes. Tom

:)the sycope is a work in progress.. I take Midrine but went from 1/2 to 2 pills 3xdaily. and I go back to the Dr. in Nov. but I cant handle all the falling down.... Im gonna break something. grrr. but I plan in starting the 5 day pouch test on Monday, kinda excited. and worried at the same time.. hope it works I dont want to go over 200lbs.

Hi, Lisa,

Glad you're here and you're, hopefully, getting all situated medically.

I have a question for you. Why Monday to begin the pouch test? What's wrong with Thursday?! lol

Lisa-Please consider using a wheelchair until you get things under control. This should stop the falling. I have an electric wheelchair that my insurance paid 80% for but found a manual wheelchair on Craigslist for $120 earlier this year, it was brand new. I looked up the list price on the Internet and found out it goes for over $300. I have it for a backup for when my electric one goes on the fritz, like now. I need new batteries and the Scooter Store told me it could take from 2-4 weeks to get approval from my insurance before they come out for service :( :( :(

Hey, Lisa,

Pat makes an excellent point about the wheelchair. And, if not a wheelchair, at the very least, a good walker. Be sure to ask around to your friends. You might even put a bug in their ears at your doctor's office. You just might find someone with a wheelchair or a walker gathering dust in a basement or attic. Or maybe someone in your face-to-face support group. I hope you're in one. If there isn't a bariatric group close, some have said that the TOPS meetings are a good second choice. I know you don't want to be driving. I bet you could get someone to swing by and pick you up.

Im driving. I even work, I just found a bariatric meeting here in town , last tues. of the month and tops is on thursday, I go get some test done in the morning, and back to the Dr. on the first . and I have been checking blood pressure every hour. some friends at work watch out for me. and they cover me if I need to stop for a minute or two.
