Hi Everyone,

I'm from Neptune, NJ and I'm new to the site. I'm looking forward to giving and receiving support and guidance. I had my surgery in December 2008. I started out at 268 and went down to 179. Now I'm back up to 200 and getting nervous. My goal is to get to 170, but I need help. I don't want the 21 lbs I've gained to become 50. I go to my primary care physician regularly and he is urging me to lose the weight. I know I should go back to my gastric surgeon, but I really don't care for him. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

Hi Njadelld, Welcome to this site. I am Tom. It's good that you noticed your weight coming back, there is the 5 day pouch test that some folks here have recomended, some have done it already and some are currently doing it, I haven't googled it yet but try google searching "5 day pouch test + bariatric" some have described it as starting from scratch, go back to a liquid protien diet etc....

I think most importantly, you should find another bariatric doctor and nutritionist ASAP, it doesn't sound like your primary care physician has a clue on how you need to deal with this, no disrespect inteded, my primary care doctor is good but she sends me to my bariatric doctor when it comes to any weight or vitamin issues. If you haven't gone to a support group meeting in a while find one near you and start going, you can meet some people there that could help you find a new doctor. I still go to them, I think they're fantastic, I can give support to those that are pre op and those that are in that initial post op phase, I also get to learn more new things from folks that are further along than I am, some are struggling as you are but didn't notice it as soon. Just remember the surgery is a tool and if we don't monitor our eating habits and meal plans we can soon face the scale going the wrong direction. Good thing you noticed it sneaking back up on you. Good luck and come back and let us know how you are doing. Tom
