Hello all. I just had my gastric sleeve procedure on 8/18 and spent 2 days in the hospital. I am home now and moving around ok. My biggest concern is that I feel hungry and am having cravings. Last night I put peanut butter on bread, chewed and spit it out. Tonight I made my son dinner and ate one bite of his food. I am starting to feel like I am already failing. Please tell me I am not the only one going through this.
I am really needing a good support system.
thank you

Welcome to the group! You are not the only one having those feelings. But it’s important for your health and success to follow the surgeons guidelines, which is something I’m sure you know. These guidelines can be a real struggle for all of us at different stages of post op life. Please don’t feel like you’re failing. Is there a counselor at your surgeons office that you can talk to about different coping strategies? Thirst can be masked as hunger, are you getting in all your hydration needs? You can do this!

Welcome to the group and congrats on your surgery. You aren't the only one to have cravings after surgery but I would strongly advise you not to give in to them. Your stomach needs to heal. Don't think of this as failing but instead focus on what you can do to take care of your newly operated on stomach. Think of the ways you can nurture it by following your guidelines given by your surgeon. Pamper yourself in other ways so that you feel like you are giving yourself "me" time. Do whatever you need to do to distract yourself when those cravings come about.

I really believe it is important to work on the mindset after WLS. Staying involved in this support group or others will help keep you on track. There are lots of good YouTube videos out there that you can watch to keep you motivated along your journey. I recommend following My Level 10 Life by Erin Branscom and Dr. Matthew Weiner who is a bariatric surgeon.

You can do this!

Oh, honey. I am so sorry you are struggling with this so early. Sadly, the cravings come. You have to hold on. Eventually, you will be able to have a bite of PB toast. Right now, you are risking your health in a very real and immediate way by eating real food. Your body NEEDS this time to heal. Your new pouch is approx. 3oz large. If you drink 3 oz of water, you WILL be full. You aren't physically hungry. You are mentally hungry.
It will not always be like this. Like everything in life, some days are great and some days are a struggle. You have proven your strength by making the choice to have surgery and change your life. DO NOT give up now.

Knows I was on clear liquids then full right after surgery. Eating anything solid was a no no. Was not cleared for soft foods till one month after surgery. It. Is hard when you prepare food for others and smell all the goodies. Hang in there you can do this
