Hi ! Had my sleeve surgery a few days ago,02/01/2022. Feeling remarkably well for the most part. A bit weak and lazy. Is it normal to feel like I should basically be sipping or chewing like all day?

Welcome!! That’s pretty normal. Sipping all day, especially in the beginning when you can’t take much at once, is good because that means you’re probably getting in all your liquid.

I’m trying! It’s almost like I want to wake up in the middle of the night to stay ahead of the game. Lol. But I’m too tired for that. They prescribed way too much pain meds in the hospital and for when I got home , which I refuse to take. Tylenol is fine. It’s nice to know there’s a place I can come to with people who have lived this journey.

I’m actually glad you aren’t getting up to drink. That sleep is so important in the beginning to help you heal. I didn’t take more than Tylenol when I got home either. My surgeon did an excellent job numbing the nerves around each incision so I didn’t have a lot of pain.

I had pain meds for the 1st 3 days at home after gastric bypass, then Tylenol worked just fine. Yes, sip, sip, sip, and walk, walk, walk should be your new mantra after surgery LOL. Welcome to the "loser's bench."

I asked my surgeon if he has ever given an injection at each incision. He said no, but he is familiar with it. He explained that lidocaine is used and it only lasts a couple of hours. Did you get something else injected which lasted longer?

I don't remember what they called it, but I also was given something to numb the nerves around the incisions that lasted about 72 hours. Really kept the pain level down so I only needed pain meds for the 1st 3 days. And they pushed out a bunch of the CO2 gas before they closed me up, thank goodness. I joked with the surgeon at my follow up visit, thanking him for using a rolling pin on me to get the gas out. Lol

It was the lidocaine injections. My surgeon said he does it because it lasts about 3 days which is when people experience the most pain at the incisions.

I have no idea if I was given that or not. My pain was pretty manageable though so maybe. I only took Tylenol when I got home.

Everything I’ve read online states that lidocaine only lasts 3-6 hours maximum. It’s what my dentist uses. Maybe your surgeon used EXPAREL which is long lasting. I’m only asking because I would like to have the same thing done.

You’d probably need to ask your surgeon. I’m pretty sure mine said lidocaine, maybe he said something like lidocaine which is why it’s stuck in my head like that.
