Newbie

Hi everyone,
My name is LJ and I’m new to the family. I just want to say that it feels really good being here. All post are so warm, encouraging and beautiful. I’m scheduled for the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass on July 18th and I’m feeling both excited and nervous. I just turned 50 on April 1st so this is my personal birthday gift to myself. I appreciate everyone for making me feel welcomed!!!

Welcome to the group & congrats on your upcoming surgery date. I was 59 when I had my gastric bypass last summer. Best. Decision. Ever. I have lost around 65lbs so far, I walk almost every day with my surgery twin, and I feel so much better. You have found a great group of caring supportive friends here. Good luck.

LJ, Congrats on you birthday gift to yourself and your up coming surgery. I am also new to this group and also feeling excited and nervous. I commend you for taking such a big step to improve your health, as I know it’s not an easy choice to make. I do not have a surgery date set yet for gastric bypass, as I am still waiting on approval from my insurance co. My next appointment is to have required exercise tests to check my heart and lungs prior to surgery and a barium X-ray of my stomach. I previously had the gastric band which had to be removed after it slipped out of place. I initially was interested in having gastric sleeve surgery, but my surgeon recommended the bypass over the sleeve since I previously had the band. I am 53 and have been worried that maybe I’m getting too old for this surgery, so I am glad to see others in their 50s on this site. I hope I can be a source of encouragement to you and others as go through this journey, and I look forward to hearing the experiences of others who have already been through bariatric surgery and any recommendations.

Welcome to this site Dani!

Welcome this is a great place with great people. Have question just ask. Or search forums, articles it may have been asked before. The people here care and will respond in good ways. I joined a month or two before my surgery and learned so much. It has been a journey totally worthwhile.

Are you sure about that? My friend in another state took an UBER to the hospital because her husband couldn’t take time off from work. She didn’t have anyone waiting around during her surgery.
