I had my surgery Fri, May 4th, as an open procedure, instead of a lap. I also had an epidural placed just before surgery for pain control that stayed in until they removed it on that Mon. I would highly recommend that to anyone! I also had a PCA with fentanyl that I could use when needed (didnt use it). I am also on NO INSULIN! I went from using 70-90 units of insulin a day to nothing now. My recovery to me has been remarkable, I was so waiting to have complications after everything I had read in the forums. My mom came to stay with me this wknd and she asked me if I would do it again, if I knew what I know now. I think she asked that question because I had prepared a big meal to celebrate Mother's Day and her Bday the next day on the 14th. They had their Brats, baked beans, and potato salad. I had some pureed bean soup (with gas-X), and custard. I told her that at this point, I would, I do not miss what they are eating. Its having my family with me that is important, food was just the center piece before. I am looking forward to my journey, struggles and all.
Keep a close eye on your BP, I started getting really light headed and weak every time I stood up or walked for to long, then one of my girls said it might be my bp and it was 90 over something so I discontinued and told my doctor on my follow up visit on Monday (it happened over the weekend), I don't recommend stopping anything until talking to the doctors. It did the trick though my blood pressure returned to a normal level without the meds and I haven't had a high bp since, I just got back from the store and their machine said 109 over 71, but it's been a relaxing day. 109/71 is beautiful! I havent been on any pain meds for a week now so I am watching for dizziness and/or lightheaded symptoms. I do have a mild heart defect, so my BP med also helps with my heart. I need to take my pulse a few times a day, and if it drops below 50bpm, I am to call the doc for some med changes. My surgeon even called me on Mother's Day to see how I was doing, and wish me a good day. I so love him!
