One Month Anniversay

Hi All!
Today is my one month anniversary! I was happy to see the liquid diet go and welcome the soft food diet. Except now that I've started to look at soft food possibilites, my darn imagination wants to stretch the definition of "soft food." LOL

In my two week liquid diet before the operation I lost 16 lbs. In my one month post surgery, I've lost 13 pounds. That is an average of 3.25 lbs per week. Is that acceptable?

I haven't had the motivation to do any other exercise than a few joint conditioning classes at the YMCA. I've done a bit of extra movement to get out and about but with my bad knees that is still hard.

I have been avoiding this chat room out of a sense of guilt. I just think I'm going through this in slow motion compared to all of you who have aced it!

18 days since surgery. I am struggling a bit with Easter celebrations. There is food and candy everywhere! I have not done anything I shouldn’t, but I am a bit hungry and grouchy! I have helped my kids bake a cake and make cupcakes. I am also in charge of most family meals. It is just getting to me enough that I yelled at my kids and I started crying! I need a deserted island!

Hello Ttyson- It sounds like you had quite a tough time over the weekend. At 18 days post-op you should be having plenty of protein to help control urges and cravings. Mood swings are part of post-op. Keep some protein and water nearby to focus on. Be happy you are doing the right thing. Try to avoid the idea that you are missing out on the same foods that helped you gain weight. I'm lucky since I only worry about my own food preparation. I can imagine that cooking for your family would make things quite challenging. Good luck!

We all get going on our own track. You need not to compare yourself to anyone. Your losing may be slow at first but moving helps is go faster. Have you thought about water exercise it will take some of the pressure off the knees. Maybe you should check into it. I hope everything gets better. But do not avoid us because we can give good advice. Come to us when you need to be comfort. And it is to help you not slide off track. Ask your doctor for physical therapy. my doctor is already ready to sign off on some physical therapy. Maybe you just need to work it out with them. Keep in touch with us

My class at the YMCA is a Joint Conditioning class in the pool. It really has been helping. I like the physical therapy idea, too. I'll call the doctor for the referral. I'm back to losing. I think I wasn't eating enough.

Well you need to keep doing what you have to. We don't want nothing happening to you. And any help is better. Maybe having the physical therapy and the YMCA will help a little more to get your knees to stop hurting so much. Me I have pushed through pain every day for the past 5 years. So the doctors want me to get the help I need as soon as I am able to
