Plastic Surgery

I am one year post op. I have gone from 323lbs to 180lbs. I have been told by my dr not to lose anymore weight because plastic surgery will remove almost 40lbs from me. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I am so confused, I want to only have the skin removal done once. Has anyone had an around the world done? Does it really remove that much weight? Should I just set up a consult?

Thanks!

Teacher-Welcome to the forum and congratulations on reaching your goal weight :) :) :) I haven't seen any posts on this forum that details skin removal but perhaps once people read your post you will get a reply from someone who has had this done. However, I think you should go ahead and set up a consult. Since everyone will be different based on their frame size, height, body shape and the desired end result the surgeon will be able to provide valuable input. If the surgeon thinks you need to lose a few more pounds he / she will tell you. In order for them to look good they need to make their patients look good. If for some reason you need to lose 5 lbs. or so after surgery it shouldn't impact your new look and require an additional surgery to remove any more skin. You're only talking about a few pounds not the 143 pounds you have successfully lost.

I had a friend that had the plastic surgery and she did indeed lose at least 40lbs

Good job on your weight loss.
You will lose a lot of weight with the skin gone Good Luck Diana;

I had skin removal surgery, and it didn't take any weight off. I was 330lbs at my highest weight. I got down to 145. I had the skin removal surgery when I gained weight and was back to 165 my BMI was like 32. My doctor never said anything about don't lose any more weight. I had my surgery in August 2012 and weigh 185 and would love to get the hanging skin on my arms and legs off.

On the TV show, Fat Doctor, there are definitely people who lose 40 pounds or more with their skin removal surgeries! They were quite happy with their results. They were called apronectomies. I'm not sure what around the world surgery is. Do they flip or turn you mid-surgery and remove extra skin from your back? Recovery is probably a bit challenging. How would someone like down comfortably after that?
