Pre surgery eating

Moving along with my requirements. Saw surgeon , met with nutritionist 2 times, passes psy. Evaluation, have date for scope. The first mo. I lost 10 lbs. now I go back to nutritionist on the 18 of August and I am failing every day trying to stay on required eating plan. The more I read the more anxious and scared I get. Only reason I can think of for the struggle. If I could stick to this and loose 10 lbs. a mo I would not need this surgery. I just guess I am wondering if anyone else is struggling with this?

Yes I am with you. I've only lost 4 pounds. In process of moving and truthfully not watching what I eat. Need to lose 25!
Well it’s monday lol and I am getting back on it. I have 2 weeks before my next app with nutritionist. Am going out to ride my bike as soon as it dries up a bit. Right back to chewing 20+ times.

are your surgeons saying if you don't lose x pounds, you can't have the surgery? because if that's the case, it's a bunch of BS. my surgeon suggested I lose a little weight before surgery but stressed much harder on my need to really chew my food until it was liquid before I swallowed. I had awesome results following surgery & only lost a few pounds before. And Nanc, nice to hear from you. the thing is, you won't be able to lose that 10 pounds a month for as long as you need to. You think that, but historically, people with eating disorders that lead to obesity ALWAYS fail. It's like being condemned to hell, to live a life of constant failures in one area. it kills self-esteem. try to go back to the beginning & lose the weight you need to, just to show the doc you can do it. the other thing we all have in common is that we're great dieters if the goal is big enough. GO GIRLS!
I think I reached my lb thing. Am just disappointed in myself that I didn’t last more than a mo. I was listening to forms by dr. V he is good tells it like it is language is offensive to me (I’m old) he is on utube

Nanc, I struggled with that big time!!! I've been on the path to surgery 3 times in the past decade. The two previous times, I crushed the pre-surgery weight loss and felt confident I could continue on my own. I cancelled my surgeries and did just that.

The first time, I went on to loose close to 90 lbs, the second time, just over 80. But both times, I put the weight back on within a year or two, plus some bonus pounds. So even if you can get up the determination and succeed at first, unfortunately diets alone almost always fail you eventually.

Each time we diet, there are actual physiological changes to our chemistry and hormones that make you gain weight easier and less resistant to weight loss. It's like once we went on our first diet in childhood or teens, we set ourselves up for this downward spiral toward obesity.

This third time, I actually went through with surgery. I'm capable of loosing weight on my own (temporarily), but I need to have a permanent tool in place to finally keep it off! It still takes a lot of determination but I know that in future times of weakness, I can no longer physically eat a whole pie. That brings me a since of reassurance.

I'm not telling you that you can't loose the weight and keep it off without surgery, if you think you can, I'd be very happy for you. It's just that realistically, the percentage of the obese population who can, is minuscule.

Please try not to be too hard on yourself. If today went well, congratulations. If not, tomorrow is a new day. You can do this! Try to remind yourself that doing this pre-op diet own your own is a temporary challenge. The tool you need for real success is coming as soon as you get through this!
