Protein Goals

I am a week post op as of tomorrow and I’m just wondering how did you all meet your protein goals. This liquid diet is hard in itself. But I can’t stomach premier protein. I went and got isopure that you add to water that was disgusting. And I’ve just switched to fairlife protein and I’m not a fan of it either. And I loved everything about premier protein pre op. I’m only able to get about a shake and a half down a day before I feel sick. I only have another week and a day of liquids but this is gonna be a long road to get to that point.

Have you tried to mix some protein shake with water. I think it was too think when I was having trouble. Just keep working at it. I know they have some water drinks with protein. I find I did not like them.

May also be able to put the isopure in something other than water. Good luck I know that is a very hard time but it will get better with time.

Try mixing half a premier shake with with either plain fairlife milk or iced coffee (I use decaf) - cuts the sweetness. I found shakes to be much too sweet post-op. You might try something savory like adding unflavored protein to a simple broth. Hang in there, once u can have soft foods unflavored protein in mashed potatoes is good. Just do the best you can.

I used to love orgain for a few years before surgery, but chocolate and vanilla were boring me. I then went and bought a case of about everything. I could not go back to Orgain though. Since it is Pea based protein all I taste were peas going back. I found trying different flavors at different times of day was a big boost for me. Muscle Milk has a certain sweetness to it that I liked at times but then in the morning I thought Premier Protein Oats Apple Cinnamon hit the spot with some cream of wheat or apple sauce on the side while I ate my pills. Right now in my fridge I have Banana Cream, Pumpkin Spice and Chocolate for flavors in my fridge. But I change it up all the time with Caramel, Strawberry, Peach when I can find it, caffe Latte, Cinnamon Roll. I've tried powders from Bariatric Pal that are also meal replacement that were good and creamy in milk or almond milk (it already has powdered milk) (Loved Orange Creamsicle as an Orange Cream soda fan), but it gave me gas that could kill everyone in a room so I gave it away. Strawberry from FairLife was my favorite but could never find it except at the gas station and pretty expensive at that price. While the Atkins strawberry was good, it did not seem to settle very well as it seemed later a little acid reflux creeping up my throat. I would say some of the protein drinks were kind of tough to start with. I spent the first 3 weeks after surgery having nothing but vitamin water and my pills until I got clearance to even get a protein drink. So they were welcome regardless. I think they gave me the ok to try whatever I wanted about a week later so I went from virtually nothing to being able to eat shrimp, mussels, and Pho soup. So I could always make up the difference in protein with seafood since it seems to chew up easily, slide down the gut and settle nicely in the stomach. My food experimentation has been widening a lot since but I still like to have 1-2 protein drinks a day. I still keep chocolate as a staple but I always have a couple other flavors in there for me waiting.
