Hello everyone I had my gastric bypass on 11/18/21. I am in desperate need of recipes for phase 3. Also we are told that when we are full to stop eating I have not got to that feeling but I just stop eating on my own. I cant seem to get a routine on how to do my meals and proteins. I just need help. Thank you for listening..

I would refer to your bariatric clinic information provided to you with suggestions/parameters for putting some foods together. If they didn't provide that to you, that is a real lack of duty on their part.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to put together complex recipes for this phase, it is a short-term thing. Just keep it simple and choose a good protein, add a reasonable starch and vegetable.

It doesn't need to be anything special. When you get back to "regular" foods, start to expand your food choices and then find meals that are healthy and enjoyable for you. Contact your dietician/nutritionist for suggestions. Below are some general, pretty generic suggestions, but it's usually recommended to follow whatever your clinic has suggested.

Protein Sources
  • All varieties of fish and shellfish
  • Turkey breast or chicken breast (chopped, white meat)
  • Sliced or grated low fat cheese (5 grams of fat or less)
  • Hard boiled or poached eggs
  • Soups (dilute with skim milk or add finely minced meats)
Grains/starches
  • Hot cereals
  • Unsweetened cereals softened in skim milk
  • Baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, or yams
  • Boiled pasta, noodles, or white rice
Fruits/vegetables
  • Canned fruit (in own juices or water packed)
  • Soft, fresh fruit without skins (apples, pears, peaches)
  • Bananas
  • Cooked or canned vegetables
  • Avoid raw, fibrous vegetables like broccoli and Brussels sprouts. Avoid skins and seeds.
Examples:

Breakfast
  • Protein: ¼ cup scrambled eggs or egg substitute
  • Starch: ¼ cup hot cereal
  • Fruit: ¼ cup canned peaches in own juice
  • Fat: 1 teaspoon margarine
Lunch
  • Protein: ¼ cup (1 ounce) turkey breast, chopped (chew very well, not cooked dry)
  • Starch: ¼ cup mashed potatoes
  • Fruit/vegetable: ¼ cup pears or mixed fruit in own juice or light
  • Fat: 1 teaspoon margarine
Dinner
  • Protein: ¼ cup (1 ounce) white fish (no breading)
  • Starch: ¼ cup sweet potato
  • Vegetable: ¼ cup cooked green beans
  • Fat: 1 teaspoon margarine

Welcome April to the group! It can be hard early on to tell when you are full. Remember to eat slow, take small bites and chew really well. Sometimes we know all too well what it feels like to take one bite too many, so you will need to be able to recognize your own cues. They aren't always the obvious either. It could be a runny nose or a pain in the shoulder. Everyone is different, so just be aware of your body cues. Good luck!
