Not sure if the type of surgery makes a difference. I had gastric bypass on July 12. 4 hr surgery including hernia repair. Prob 4-5 hrs after waking up I was standing & walking a few steps. I can't remember the exact timeline, but since I couldn't get a room until 6 a.m. on the 13th, the surgery recovery people had me up & walking a few times, to the bathroom & back.I'm on track to have surgery the beginning of December. On average, what is the turn around time to be up & moving around afterwards? I'm very excited & nervous as well.
Great, thanks Judy. Now that song is going around inside my brain again. Sip, sip, sip,Welcome to the group! They get you up as soon as possible because they want you to work out the post-surgery gas that can be uncomfortable if you don't. Also as with any surgery you don't want to just lie in bed and wind up with a blood clot.
The words of my doctor as to what you will do just after surgery: Walk, walk, walk and sip, sip, sip!

Walk, walk, walk.
