Well it’s done. Went in Wednesday June 12 and my 90 min surgery ended up taking 5 hours 53 mins! I had a huge hiatal hernia to remove at the end of my esophagus and tons of scar tissue. They told me I should have no pain, and I have read most have no pain. I had so much pain it couldn’t be controlled. I spent over 2 hours in recovery in a medical induced coma following being dosed out on Morphine, and Ketoralac toradal as most know it with no help. Surgeon came to visit in recovery because the PACu nurse had no clue how to help me since I couldn’t have more meds and still the pain was unbearable. He spoke to my husband and decided a medication coma would be best until they could wean me off and see as I woke up if I could handle the pain. I stayed this way for 47 hours and then kept doped up on Ativan and Xanax, Dilaudid until it was time to wake enough to sip on my 1/4 tsp of broth then back out. Home Saturday and Sunday developed bilateral swelling in legs and feet, Monday had a fever 101.8 and back to the ER. I had pneumonia! Antibiotics are started and fluids with observation. Home and resting well now. It’s much better than my first surgery 6 years ago but I really hoped this would have been much more routine than it ended up! I should have known I can’t be a normal patient! Glad it’s over and done. Now I am starving at each meal and so sick of broth and protein juice and shakes and I can’t wait to eat again!!!!! Thanks for all the pre surgery chat and wishes! I made it guys!!!

Wow I'm really sorry you had such a hard time I had the duadinal switch and he had to fix my hiatal hernia as well I had quite a bit of pain as well for a couple days then at the three week point I woke up one morning and it hurt to breathe in so I knew what that was a sign of a pulmonary embolism and sure enough that's what it was I'm on Eloquist now for 6 months and added a pulmanologist and a Hematologists to my list of Dr lol but I am down 35 pounds at the 1 month point struggling a bit with introducing foods I go forward then back to broth but it is getting better

Thank you! I pray to god I have no more complications. So far food has been ok. Dr moved me to stage 2 already since mine was not a standard revision for weight loss at 156 they didn’t want me to lose much more so they left my sleeve a little longer than most. The 1/4 tsp wasn’t enough and I was starving to death so he said go to stage 2. It has been much more satisfying and I’ve done well with it. No foods yet I have found that have caused issues or pain. Hopefully your food situation gets figured out and you can find stable meals that help!

Glad to hear you are feeling better. I found out at my barriactric class that if you have a hernia, the doctor won't fix it. That insurance (in California) will cover tummy tuck with the hernia repair. Hope that's true I have a hernia.
