I'm looking for any hints anyone may have that they have used to help with severe acid reflux. My doc says it's probably complicated by my past gastric bypass (I was warned about this), but never expected it to get this severe. It's gotten to the point of eating basically baby food, applesauce and cottage cheese and taking 4 different medications and sleeping basically sitting up. So has anyone else had to deal with this and how have you handled it? My doc said there was one surgical fix for this, he said it could be fixed by reversing my gastric bypass!!! I was like, over my dead body,!

. So anyone got any REASONABLE answers? I appreciate any and all answers. By the way, I'm 3 years post surgery.
Thanks
Well we are all experiencing what you are calling acid reflux.
However, I am not sure that it is acid reflux as we used to know it.
I know certain foods will quickly make me belch and burp for at least a 1/2 hour after I finish a meal. But then it subsides.
Many of my gastric bypass friends have told me as time goes by the burping subsides.
My Doctor put me on a prescription level Pepcid 40mg right from the beginning. I also take a Prilosec each day or the generic equivalent.
However, there are a few other things that affect this occurrence:
One is eating too fast.
The other is eating fatty foods for me or sweets.
I have learned to cut back on these items. I have also learned to stop eating when I "sense" that I am approaching being full. It helps reduce the amount of time.
For example, yesterday I was out at a restaurant and I had a hamburger on 1/2 of the bun. I should have stopped half way through the hamburger. I think it was probably about 5 ounces. In fact half way I sensed my fullness, but decided to ignore it. Had I stopped 1/2 way I would not have had to deal with the burping afterwards that lasted for about a 1/2 hour to an hour after I completed the whole thing. I clearly, ate too much and I knew it.
Also, the fat content is unknown but probably was a bit too much as well. You can tell. You get that feeling that the burping will start; if you know what I mean.
Also, if I have a one egg breakfast I am fine. If I want two eggs, I space them out across plenty of time; like about an hour or so. After I finish one egg, I stop and go about my business doing something else. I let a 1/2 hour or so go by and then go back to having the second egg.
Two eggs and a piece of toast is still a bit much for me even at 7 months post op. I do remember when one egg was a bit too much.
So eating too much and/or eating too quickly will bring it on.
Also, eating the wrong foods will bring it on quickly. By now you probably know what foods you should avoid.
I cannot do bacon. If I do, I pay for it dearly; sometimes I sneak a bite but that is it.
I love pork, but pork doesn't not love me at this stage of my journey; even a lean pork chop. However, lately I can do about 2 ounces of a lean pork chop without getting into trouble.
It is dynamic.
It would be very helpful if you posted your entire profile. How far along your journey you are, how much weight has been lost and are you following a good eating plan or are you adding some things back to your diet that you shouldn't at this stage of your post op journey.
I clearly hear you saying that you are enjoying the benefits of your weight loss and that there is no way you are going back to the "old" way.
Just keep plugging forward.
BTW the Doctor comment about reversing your surgery; did this come from your bariatric surgeon? if so, dump him/her. That was dumb in my opinion.
