Sleeping so much

I'm four and a half days post surgery. I'm on a pain pill every four hours and a pill for muscle spasms every eight hours. Nearly all I can do is sleep since surgery. Right now I've been awake for 45 minutes and am so tired, I am hoping to make it back to bed in time. Is this normal?

COMPLETELY normal! I slept 12 hour nights and still needed a couple naps during the day. It fades but can take weeks. Just let your body have what it needs. :)

Thank you very much, Diane. I did mis use opioids after an accident (for about four years) but haven't used them or alcohol in nearly nine years. So I'm only taking these meds as prescribed, not even one minute early. I've been using trazadone for years because of insomnia, along with melatonin. I haven't used either of these since two nights before surgery. I haven't needed them since surgery.

I am prescribed the pain pills every four hours. The pain wakes my up after about 3 hours 45 minutes.
