Hi! I need advise. I had my mind made up, after a lot of research, that I wanted to get the sleeve done, but I have had Gerd for several years. Surgeon suggests bypass. He does bypass laproscopicly, so it won't be open surgery. I have always heard that there are more complications with bypass. Surgeon said "Not true". I am leaning towards bypass now but worried about complications.

I was like you except my acid reflux isn’t terrible yet. I was pretty set on the sleeve. But after talking to the counselor, I really changed my mind. For me, it’s about how much weight I need to lose and my current medical non morbid conditions. My last appointment is this Friday, and I am very excited about having the bypass. But in the end it’s personal decision.

I have had both (long story)... My personal preference is bypass for many reasons, and your surgeon is correct - there are no more complications with bypass. The old days, the type of surgery that was labeled bypass WAS riskier and had a lot of additional complications. Fortunately, they have made a lot of advances since then!

Robbin! Me too, almost exactly! I felt safe with the sleeve procedure and then my endoscopy showed reflux and a baby ulcer. Now I may have to rethink the bypass. I am awaiting for my surgeon to get back to me on whether the pathology indicates bypass is the better path. He was supposed to call today to explain the test results but no call. Doesn't he know I'm on pins and needles waiting for a decision!!
