Snacking a little too much these days & a quick update (almost 6 months out)

I’m a little over a week away from being 6 months post op & had my check up just a week ago. They said I’m losing very well & that they bet we will be talking about maintenance weight next time they see me which is in 4 months. I was warned that my weight loss will be very slow from here on out which I’ve already noticed but I’m more than okay with that as I’m actually happy at the weight I’m now at. They said I will be in a healthy BMI if I lose another 20ish lbs but in all honesty I feel AMAZING right now :) I now eat what my forever diet will look since I’m able to fit some carbs in my small stomach now. My dinner plate usually consist of meat, veggies & a starch or carb (maybe that’s the same thing idk lol). Now I will say that my weight is technically stalled & I’ve actually gained around 1.5lbs since the holidays but I also just picked up exercising again which I’m so happy about. It’s something for me to be proud of. My doc told me that the body usually goes back to pre weight gain (what it was used to before one started gaining so much) so that would be about 160 for me. I’m sitting at 183-184 right now. At this point I’m just going to let my body do it’s own thing however I did start tracking my food again & I had 3 small meals today and 5 SNACKS!! That was hard to say lol but it’s true! I’m gonna have to do better cause that’s just ridiculous for me to think I need all that. I am definitely noticing I’m able to eat more these days so I make SURE to only put small portions on my plate so I’m not tempted to over eat (I’m that girl that thinks she needs to finish everything on her plate but I’ve come a long way). What do you guys do when you know you’re starting to snack too much? Any ideas? I’m home all day as I homeschool 3 kids but food is always near by.

My advice, for what it’s worth, is when you reach for a snack reach for water first. After you finish 8 oz of water and you’re still hungry then have a protein rich snack. I snack and it hasn’t been an issue for me, but I find my hunger comes and goes. I don’t snack daily but there are times when I’m just more hungry. As you begin to exercise more that might be the case. Don’t ignore your body hunger, just feed it appropriately. Also, CONGRATS on your success so far! Traveling and Covid definitely present obstacles and you are doing really well navigating all of this!

Thank you so much! I’ll give the water a try cause we could always use a little extra :)

Less Marie, you've made a lot of progress and you really stick to this support group. It seems you'd restrict snacking in advance so you can really have power over your lifestyle.

I don't really snack but I'm practically addicted to skinny jeans and slinky tops, so I don't find cookies very appealing.

But I know there was a time when I craved carbs and fat a lot more than denim and silk. It helped to have someone who admired my body and told me so. Otherwise, I probably would've had a devoted marriage to pasta and milkshakes.

Its hard to control a passion or obsession.
Oh my goodness, I wish I could hug you for making me laugh so dang hard!!!! This just put a BIG smile on my face. Thank you for that :) Love how you compare everything, hahaha!

Hey, Lesa. I wonder if you are having problems getting enough at meals. I sometimes find that the foods I eat for meals are harder to digest, and therefore I can eat less of them. And if you're eating too small of an amount, due to how quickly a food makes you feel full, you'll be hungry again that much sooner. I have mostly adjusted my lunches to be more snack-like, but dinner is still difficult for me. I am left feeling very full rather quickly and then very hungry again, since I only managed a few bites.

Since I also feed my husband dinner, I find myself making more standard dinner fare; even if it IS healthier than it used to be. But those foods seem to be more filling. Which leaves me full within a few bites and hungry again in 2 hours. Which just is what it is. So, I try to snack less during the day (no snack at all between breakfast and lunch) so that I leave myself the room for the snack that I know I'm going to need after dinner.

I had gastric sleeve surgery on 5/18/22 lost 140 need encouragement

I agree with that advice of avoiding carbs and fat, Diane. I'm right there on avoiding sweets, pasta, bread, white rice, etc., and I believe that's a huge part of my weight loss. I do try to avoid fats, but I'm not as successful with that. After next week, I'm going to try the 1 to 2 protein shakes daily, plus the healthy foods high in protein, plus veggies & some fruit. Back on track for the new year in a real way.

OMG thanks for the suggestion about adding Greek Yogurt rather than using ranch dressing. I could drink Hidden Valley Ranch right out of the bottle (just like the commercials). Having a creamy substitute is just what I need.

I've enjoyed your food pictures in the past. I may be texting you for some more tips and recipes if you don't mind. I might do some "pantry" cleaning out in the next couple weeks. Getting rid of outdated anything & tossing unhealthy things that I haven't already removed during my previous cleansings might help inspire me.

Oh yeah, that looks so delicious & healthy too. That is what I'm going to start eating as soon as the new year starts. So a little fat will be ok. Cool! If I include some shredded cheese with the meat (& maybe tofu), I could live on salads. Thanks for the great idea of that homemade dressing. ❤❤
Yes, it a little of healthy fat is good. Some vitamins need it so they can be absorbed by the body.

Karen, you can use your own spices to make a healthier version of ranch dressing. But Hidden Valley Ranch makes a dry seasoning packet that you can use to flavor literally anything. You can sprinkle it directly onto veggies, add it to hummus, use it to season your meats. You can have ranch pork chops, chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli. E v e r y t h i n g!! You can also it to make your own, healthier HRV dressing.

Good Seasonings makes an Italian, and a Zesty Italian, dry seasoning packet that is amazing as well. That one is my go-to.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will be on the lookout for the HVR seasonings, and the Italian/zesty. I love marinating almost any meat with zesty Italian dressing before baking, so that's right up my alley. Can't wait to try these.
