Snacking a little too much these days & a quick update (almost 6 months out)

I love to add the Italian dressing packet to my crockpot roast with a little chili sauce and beef broth. Yummy! Now I want some LOL
Ok I officially am adding this idea to my recipe collection. Yum! Thank you!

My go-to crock pot roast recipe always used to be layered baby carrots, cut up potatoes, sliced onions, cut up celery, radishes, cream of mushroom soup & milk, a roast, Lipton's dry onion soup on top, sometimes one more can of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, & seasonings. It probably would still work with my "diet" (I mean, WLS lifestyle eating).

Now I'm gonna try your recipe to make a new favorite. Do you use a chuck roast usually? I'll bet that would be great with beef short ribs too!

I’m a little over a week away from being 6 months post op & had my check up just a week ago. They said I’m losing very well & that they bet we will be talking about maintenance weight next time they see me which is in 4 months. I was warned that my weight loss will be very slow from here on out which I’ve already noticed but I’m more than okay with that as I’m actually happy at the weight I’m now at. They said I will be in a healthy BMI if I lose another 20ish lbs but in all honesty I feel AMAZING right now :) I now eat what my forever diet will look since I’m able to fit some carbs in my small stomach now. My dinner plate usually consist of meat, veggies & a starch or carb (maybe that’s the same thing idk lol). Now I will say that my weight is technically stalled & I’ve actually gained around 1.5lbs since the holidays but I also just picked up exercising again which I’m so happy about. It’s something for me to be proud of. My doc told me that the body usually goes back to pre weight gain (what it was used to before one started gaining so much) so that would be about 160 for me. I’m sitting at 183-184 right now. At this point I’m just going to let my body do it’s own thing however I did start tracking my food again & I had 3 small meals today and 5 SNACKS!! That was hard to say lol but it’s true! I’m gonna have to do better cause that’s just ridiculous for me to think I need all that. I am definitely noticing I’m able to eat more these days so I make SURE to only put small portions on my plate so I’m not tempted to over eat (I’m that girl that thinks she needs to finish everything on her plate but I’ve come a long way). What do you guys do when you know you’re starting to snack too much? Any ideas? I’m home all day as I homeschool 3 kids but food is always near by.
Hey! I can share what worked for me. Not necessarily after the surgery but I have 10 years of obsessive dieting behind me - I lost more than 100 lbs couple times, my problem was - it always came back.
Is your snacking actual hunger or cravings? Eating so little you’re justified to feel hungry, but that’s where healthy, low calorie snacks come to play. Cravings is something you should try to resist. Another thing that can play tricks on you is blood sugar. If it goes up and down it can cause hunger waves and you need to stabilize it by limiting carb intake. You can also try a chromium supplement.
from my experience and to my knowledge working with many nutritionists and fitness professionals over the years - unless there is something wrong going on in your body (like a hormonal issue for example), there are pretty much two ways to break a diet plateau- either by reducing carbs/increasing protein or increased physical activity.
Ironically for some people who take calorie deprivation too far, their metabolism is going into the defense mode and slowing down drastically- to lose more weight ironically they need to increase the calorie intake, but it doesn’t sound like that’s the case here. Maybe some of it helps. Good luck!

Oh gosh, you have such wonderful words of wisdom. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I sure wish I got alerts like I used to when people replied to my post. Not sure what’s going on with that but again thanks for the response :) I most definitely think exercise will be great for me but it’s been so off and on over the past month. I need to work on that. Carbs are another thing… Most of my carbs come from sugar. Another struggle of mine. You have great tips!

You’re welcome! Sugar is evil. Not only it’s bad for you and makes you gain weight but also makes you crave more sugar and increases your appetite. It’s the ultimate diet sabotage. Good news is - the less you eat it, the less you crave it. At least make sure that your first meal of the day is pure protein- like eggs. Believe it or not, that first meal (when you’re sleeping it’s a fasting blood sugar level) can send you on the roller coaster of sugar cravings for the entire day.

You speak facts! And very interesting about the first meal. I’ll keep that in mind.
