I have one last hurdle to conquer before getting weight loss surgery. I have quit caffeine and soda and nicotine. Those sucked but my last hurdle is tough. I eat FAST, like super sonic and I always have. I have tried repeatedly to be more mindful and slow down but I am failing miserably. If I get too hungry I just start shoveling it in and before I know it it’s all gone and it’s been like 2 minutes. Any ideas?

2 little tips. Eat with a smaller fork, setting it down between bites. Try chewing it until it turns to mush in your mouth. This might help you savor the flavor and start slowing down. Also, try timing yourself so you take at least 15 minutes to eat.

I know it can be hard eating slowly, especially if you've had a job with a short lunch break. It just takes time (no pun intended) to relearn eating this way. It really is necessary after WLS to allow your brain and body to work together at recognizing when you are full. Good luck.

Btw, congrats on breaking those other habits. You are awesome!!!

Eating fast after weight loss surgery can make you sick. Like throwing up sick, totally no fun. Putting the utensil down will be a benefit between bites. If you have to count to twenty before you pick up the eating utensil. Then put the intensional down and count slowly or backwards it makes you think. Start at number 538

I just watched a video on this tonight at the Dr. had 8 tips on how to eat after weight loss surgery - and they all revolved around taking small bites, chewing thoroughly (like 20 times), sitting on your hands between bites, waiting 30 seconds after swallowing before next bite, and checking in with your stomach often. I couldn't believe it. My husband and I are fast eaters too and I can't imagine just sitting at the table doing nothing!

Talk to each other, smile, laugh, stick out your tongues at each other, hold hands between bites, bill and coo, fall back in love all over again. Slow down the eating part and just thoroughly enjoy each other's company. ❤❤❤❤

Btw, thank you for sharing your dr's suggestions. That is such helpful advice. I love being reminded of how to eat, and those 8 tips are so good.
