Starving!

okkkkk so im on day 2 of pureed stage!!! Wahoooo!!! I don't want to complain cause it is way better than liquid. I've been doing 3 meals 1/4 cup of cottage cheese and I had 1 protein shake. How come I feel starving still? I swear if it weren't for my incisions I feel the dr didn't do the surgery hahaha ha!
Am I able to eat more or should i just stick it out with what I've been doing?

Based on what you described eating in a day, I suspect you aren't eating/drinking enough and definitely not getting enough protein. I agree with Diane in that you should find some foods that you like and puree them. Tuna salad, chicken and gravy, chili, and some other things that have a bit more to them than cottage cheese. I suspect you are being a little too cautious, and I understand. Learning this new way of eating isn't "natural" for us. We have to relearn.

The important thing, like Diane mentioned, is making sure you are meeting your protein and fluid goals for the day. My protein shake intake hasn't changed since starting puree. The small amounts of puree don't generally have enough protein or calories to replace a shake. I still use drinks to ensure I get at least 60g of protein from that source. Generally, your protein goals after the liquid phase should be 0.3 x bodyweight. The pureed food I try doesn't really replace anything I was doing during the liquid phase. In my diet, the purees are replacing the soup I was eating for "meals" during the liquid phase. It is almost an equal caloric trade-off, and the protein is supplemental, so I have to keep up the protein drinks and fluids as I was before.

I really wish you had contact with your nutritionist. It's not very supportive of the weight loss clinic you used to not allow some sort of communication with your nutritionist before you see them in person. It seems like that would be very helpful for you. I know it has been helpful to me.

I agree just when I saw my doctor he emphasized not to over do it and so in VERY cautious. In adding another protein shake in my late afternoon snack. I have been writing everything down. How much are u consuming in your meals as in the amount of food?

I had about 3oz of refried beans (1/4C) last night and about the same amount of eggs (two large scrambled - one large egg is about 1.5 oz) this morning. I spread both meals out over 15-20 minutes - so very small and spaced out bites. I didn't drink anything for 30 min before or after, which my dietician said was optional for the pureed stage but also helpful in preparing for soft food and regular eating. With both the beans and eggs I felt full, not stuffed, afterward. I spent some time just thinking about how I was feeling. If I felt like I wanted more, I asked myself if it was because I liked the taste and got pleasure in that, or am I really still hungry. I could have eaten more of both just because I was enjoying the taste, but that is what got me in weight trouble in the first place! lol So now I'm trying to be more conscious of what my other senses are telling me besides smell and taste. I'm working on determining if my body is really still wanting or needing more food. After eating 3 oz and waiting 30 minutes I'm finding that I am comfortable. I'm not hungry and I don't need more. It's not an easy decision because I really enjoyed eating those things with a new taste and texture, but I have to make sure I'm "listening" to other signals too. We are in a battle! We have a new weapon, but it's going to take time to learn how to aim, fire, and hit the mark each time.

I have one packet that they gave me. I keep reading it over. In sure I'll get the hang of it just being over cautious I think lol. That's the overthinker in me lol

she has never spoke to me 1 on 1 it was always in a big group. I have no idea what she would like me to do as far as calorie intake or anything. The packet basically says examples of what to eat for each stage.

Definitely reach out now. I would be shocked and offended if they didn’t at least set up a phone call or a virtual appointment. It would be pretty lame if they didn’t. They are supposed to be there for exactly these kinds of situations.
