Support groups

Hey there. Has anyone had any success in finding local support groups that meet more than once a month, regardless of what state you are in?
I guess a better question would be, if there was a group close to you, would you attend?
I was required to attend a local group before surgery. They also only had them once per month so I found that most people were there for the same reason and most topics were about getting approved for surgery. I was hoping that it would be more post-surgery patients discussing the nuts and bolts of their experience, challenges and successes. That said, I did only attend one so perhaps that one was an oddity. I just didn't learn much because everyone was in my same boat.

The only support groups I can find are through surgeon's offices and are held at the most once a month. I was hoping to find a more informal group that met at least bi-weekly.
I reached out on here to see if maybe someone might have had more success in their search, even if it was in a different part of the country. I wanted to pick their brain on their group's origin.
I think it would be more beneficial than a rigid meeting that you only get once a month, but maybe I'm just thinking selfishly.

Unfortunately the only support groups I have found are through my surgeons office and they are once a month as well. I haven't seen any that meet more frequently. I know Brenda has mentioned overeaters anonymous before. You might see if you can find a meeting for them that is more frequent if you can't find an actual bariatric support group that meets more regularly. Also, you could look at starting your own support group. Here is a link that another member posted about it: Starting a Support Group

Mine is also through my surgeons office and they only meet once a week. It's aggravating because they have one Tuesday evenings and one Wednesday at noon and not one person in either group has had RNY.
Maybe at some point the surgery recovery and follow through become the same.
