Hello everyone ;) We live in Southern WV and my husband will be scheduled in the next month or so for the Bariatric Sleeve. He has fought his weight problem for years and this is the first insurance we have had that will pay for this life saving procedure. I am looking for helps, tips and hints that will help me be the best support physically and mentally for him. I want this to be a success story!!! GOD BLESS everyone

Hi! WELCOME to the Forum!

Your husband has made a great decision! Being supportive of him will help him excel and succeed in his weight loss.

Encourage your husband to follow the surgeon's instructions to the letter. At first your husband will be on liquids. Then he will be on soft foods or possibly strained food. Then after a few weeks he will be allowed regular food. Many people go wrong by deciding they will follow their own rules on what and when to eat. Also equally important is to eat very slowly and eat tiny bites. Chew, chew, chew. Many overweight people eat fast and gulp their food and it doesn't give time for the stomach to send the message that it's full. The most important thing in my opinion is to not overstretch the new tiny stomach pouch. Measure the food, at first the amount will only be a couple tablespoons full. This amount will make the tummy feel like a Thanksgiving feast was eaten. Slowly the amount will be increased over time but it will never be a huge amount. Measuring will ensure that the correct amount of food will be eaten. The weight usually falls off pretty fast especially for men. I guess they usually have a higher metabolism. Attend local support meetings if at all possible. Be active on this forum, it will help you both and in turn you all can help others.

Good luck!!! :)
