Well, today they called me with the time for my surgery on this Monday.

Surgery time is 12:50 and I have to be there by 11:20am.

Moving right along and getting closer. I am so ready!!!

How exciting Carol. I'm sure things are now becoming more real for you. As I'm sure you already know you will be kept so busy once you are being prepped for surgery that it will seem like just minutes and before you know it you we be waking up in recovery. Make sure to let us know how things are going once you are able to get to a computer. In the meantime good thoughts and prayers are being sent your way.

Yep, once I get that knockout juice that will be it until I wake up in recovery with my PCA pump, foley and JP.
Will take recovery nice and easy. Got to program my phone for my work floor's phone number. I work in the unit right next door to where I will be in.
Not far to visit once I am up and slowly zipping around. Think I will bring my fitbit zip with me to track the steps i do-if I can remember afterward to put it on when I do go walking.
Will also be using a heating pad as I hear that they are very soothing. I will get an abdominal binder as well. Seems to help from what I am hearing out there when I visit. Also nausea has been a big issue with people so far.

Carol

Carol-The abdominal binder is a must. Be sure to ask for it as soon as you get into your room. You won't get one unless you request it. It made a big difference with comfort since gravity will cause the surgical area to pull downward and stretch the sore tissue. The binder will tend to ride up and fold over since it's quite wide so make sure you adjust it before it starts pinching your skin.

As for the nausea, it can't be avoided. Some people tend to have more than others. I was lucky that I only had 2 bouts of it while in the hospital. Both happened when I smelled food that was being served to other patients. My hospital diet consisted of plain tea, beef or chicken broth (both were horrid) sugar free jello, water and crystal lite lemonade served warm (also horrid). I recommend taking along your favorite sugar free caffeine free beverage and just asking for some water to mix it in. You won't be wanting to eat anything and probably won't feel thirsty since you will be on IV fluids but you need to still sip on something to keep things moving along.

You really shouldn't be feeling any bad pain, just some minor discomfort and gas pain. Ask for Gas-Ex and lots of it *LOL* And push that pain pump button every 10-15 minutes to keep from getting pain. If you don't have any issues sleeping you will probably be drifting off a lot for the first 24 hours anyway. You'll be walking up and down that hallway before you know it!!!

I hear that if one has pain at home liquid tylenol would be good to use with the pouch-but, I cannot seem to find the stuff. I checked Walmart this morning and then I went online and checked. Has Liquid tylenol been phased out??? The surgeon gave me a pain med to take home before so that I would have it at home. Not really wanting to take it-it is Oxycodone. I would rather take liquid tylenol if I can find it.

Carol

Carol-I found children's liquid Tylenol at Walmart. Just adjust the dose accordingly. The liquid Oxycodone tastes bad (very strong) so if you end up using it you can dilute it to make it more palatable. The first time I tried it was in the hospital and the taste made my eyes cross *LOL*

Carol--So excited for you, what a wonderful Christmas present to give yourself!! Sounds like you are totally prepared, I'm sure you will do fine. Take care/God Bless and keep us posted. Time 4 me
