Carol-The abdominal binder is a must. Be sure to ask for it as soon as you get into your room. You won't get one unless you request it. It made a big difference with comfort since gravity will cause the surgical area to pull downward and stretch the sore tissue. The binder will tend to ride up and fold over since it's quite wide so make sure you adjust it before it starts pinching your skin.
As for the nausea, it can't be avoided. Some people tend to have more than others. I was lucky that I only had 2 bouts of it while in the hospital. Both happened when I smelled food that was being served to other patients. My hospital diet consisted of plain tea, beef or chicken broth (both were horrid) sugar free jello, water and crystal lite lemonade served warm (also horrid). I recommend taking along your favorite sugar free caffeine free beverage and just asking for some water to mix it in. You won't be wanting to eat anything and probably won't feel thirsty since you will be on IV fluids but you need to still sip on something to keep things moving along.
You really shouldn't be feeling any bad pain, just some minor discomfort and gas pain. Ask for Gas-Ex and lots of it *LOL* And push that pain pump button every 10-15 minutes to keep from getting pain. If you don't have any issues sleeping you will probably be drifting off a lot for the first 24 hours anyway. You'll be walking up and down that hallway before you know it!!!
