Hi Everyone,

I’m new to the forum and so glad to have found this support group. I’ll admit, I’ve been feeling a bit nervous after reading some of the posts—it made me start to question if I’m making the right decision. But as I’m typing this, I realize deep down that I am doing what’s best for me.

I do have some concerns, though—especially about the pain. Does everyone experience it as intensely as some people describe? I’ve heard stories about severe gas pain, and since I’ve had bad gas pain even without surgery, that part worries quite a bit

I want to be successful, but I don't want to feel like I want my life to end.

Hi Angel, the way you put it here is perfect: "as SOME people describe." Pain is something that cannot be experienced or understood by one person's description to another.

I almost always think, "Well, that wasn't nearly as bad as I was told it would be..." when I go through the pain someone else experienced. Childbirth is a great example. My opinion is that it cannot be described, period. I remember being terrified after hearing my oldest sister talk about it. She scared me so much, I actually joined Zero Population Growth, a group devoted to birth control in the 1960s, and decided never to have children. As it turned out, when I met more women over the next decade, I realized some women felt no pain at all, employing breathing and meditation effects to shift focus away from pain.

And when I finally gave birth in 1979, I actually fell asleep after several hours of labor, just completely worn out. The stuff the doctor did to me hurt worse than the process of giving birth.

But just make sure you tell your doctor or any members of your medical team that you feel very anxious about the pain you might feel. There are many pain management techniques that have been shown to be effective over the decades this surgery has been perfected. And on a personal level, the pain I experienced had more to do with the severity of how the surgery was performed, which could have been minimized if I'd had more power over the experience. I've learned a lot from that and in other surgeries, I've definitely been ahead of the curve long before the procedure was performed.

Hi. How did your surgery go?
Hi GiantsLola, I just posted this morning and thank you for checking in. The surgery went well, I also had a hernia repair, but I am doing well and down 40+.

Wishing everyone all the best, Angel
:)
