Tentative date set

Good morning. I finally have a tentative date set for surgery...May 22...I spoke with my insurance co this morning. They did approve the procedure but wouldn't fax the approval letter to my dr. They mailed the letter out yesterday, so we should get it next week. Then they will schedule my 2nd consult. I'm more nervous now, it's really going to happen...but I understand that this is normal, but still is making me nervous and a little anxious.:cool:

Nana-Wonderful news!!! Feeling nervous and anxious is normal. The entire process is an emotional rollercoaster so be prepared to hang on :) It's all good though and you have all of us here to lean on :) My support system wasn't the greatest except for this forum. Just be sure to keep us posted.

Thanks Pat. I was fine until I heard that I was approved, and it was like "OMG I can't believe this is actually going to happen now." I'm glad that I got my anxiety meds from my pcp, so it will take the edge off a little bit. I posted on Facebook this morning, and I had several people make great comments. One of them is in my weight loss support group and she said they were all there to support me through this. And I have this wonderful forum, it has really taken the fear out of surgery. I also went to the local nutrition center and talked to a wonderful man about bariatric supplements and protein, he was very helpful.

not to worry about keeping you all posted, I am on here every day!!!;)

Nana-When you visit your local nutrition stores be very careful. Everyone there works on commission and will try to sell you things you don't need. Your nutritionist will tell you EXACTLY what you need based on the bloodwork the surgeon will order a few weeks before your surgery. There are specific types of supplements for bariatric surgery patients because of the alterations that are done to our digestive system during surgery. Please wait until you are given direction from your nutritionist before you shop.

Not to worry, I bought 2 single packs of protein, just to see what they taste like, it was something on my approved list. But I do plan on being very careful, cause even though the guy seemed very knowledgeable, I know he was just trying to make a sale with the liquid sunkist protein drinks he says that they are plant digested first so they will digest properly. The thing with that, I know that they weren't on the approved list, so I had no plans on buying any.

Ok, I just looked at my list from the surgeon. Bariatric Advantage, MaxPro, Synthrax Nectar, Unjury, Chike, Isopure - zero carb, JayRobb whey or egg (I bought the JayRobb whey protein...pina colada and tropical dreamsicle) Nutra/Pro all of these are the powders. I was told no collagen based bullet drinks like the ones in shots, test tubes or bullets as they are poor in protein quality and not highly absorbed.

Hi NannaG, I didn't know that about the protien shots, I know a lot of folks here and in my support group use them but I haven't tried them yet so I will probably stay away from them now. with my line of work I need a quality protien when I am feeling worn down, and not a quck fix. Thanks for the info. Congratulations on your surgery date. Tom

You are very welcome Tom. Today is a rough day for me but I am taking it slowly. Still feel kinda jittery I guess, not really sure why. I can hardly eat and just feel shaky in general. Looking forward to my 2nd consult with the surgeon which I hope is this week so I can know exactly what I need to do prior to surgery.
