Hello. I am new here and I'm three days post Op, VSG.
I'm not quite sure where to start and don't want to ramble.
Anyone have any trouble swallowing/taking anything in but water? Water, Popsicles and ice chips have been my go too, and chicken broth with some salt!

It took me about 4 months, roughly 4 and a half to see all of my Specialist, & get all my procedures done pre-surgery.
Surgery day was this past Friday (10/03/2025l. So far, the only experience I did not like was being unable to shower for 48 hours...that felt like a lifetime when you're someone whose used to showering at night before bed and when you get up(before leaving for the work day).

My skin is flawless though! I'm grateful for that! Never knew that'd be a perk! LOL

I'm looking forward to chatting with others about their experiences and reading as many posts as I can!
Any tips/tricks about the first two weeks would be much appreciated! I do already have use some vitamins. So, any information will be much appreciated!

Congratulations!! Good for you on taking the plunge. The very best and number one tip I can give you 3 days out is to take it slooooowwww and easy. Stay hydrated, like have water close to you like glue. And broth...whether chicken, beef or veggie....those are your friends. And no STRAWS!! Glowing skin is awesome though. I think that may be due to the liquids and not the lack of showering though. lol :D

Thank you so much for your response! I'm definitely moving slow, a little faster than a turtle! LOL
Water goes down very easy now. I do still find myself hungry for and craving things I'm not supposed to have any longer. Especially chips and bread! I do love a good cold cup of Motts Apple sauce! It's not easy going down, but I do feel full afterwards!

I am now 19 days post off and have lost 20 pounds! I can see the difference in my face the most! I have been feeling so much better and I have a "weak feeling" day, here and there. I am taking vitamins faithfully and keep up on my hydration.

Has anyone else experienced being very weak at times, or having pain in your stomach after eating just two to three bites of solid food?!
If so, what do you do or take to relieve your discomfort?

Does anyone incorporate at lot of protein in the diet during weeks three or week four?!

Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance for your time!

I'm new here. had VSG 4 years ago. I would call it a failed VSG...I had many stalls early on and couldn't lose weight after 8 months...I lost a total of about 45lba with that surgery. I then decided to look into revision...VSG to RNY & today is my 2nd week postop. I feel so blessed to have a 2nd chance. My VSG surgery..I had pain in my chest area...that went away close to my 2 week mark. I was able to keep things down, but It was pretty hard for me to take nothing but little sips. This go around..I had pretty bad pain on my right lower side (that was the deepest cut they made) and it was really hard foe me to get out of bed without pain...but after about 10 days...that went away. I can now bend down & pick things up. I'm able to drink like I normally would prior to this 2nd surgery. I'm eating cut up foods/mushy & I haven't had any issues. thank God!

I'm doing so much better since my initial post. I am five weeks post op tomorrow. The most trouble I've had during this healing stage has been pain on my left side from where the largest portion of the stomach was removed and then if I eat too much too fast, the discomfort has me ready to call home to Heaven! LOL

It's gotten easier and I'm learning my limitations. My favorite thing to eat is applesauce! I was so excited when my Physician allowed me to start eating soft foods. Mashed potatoes and applesauce take the number one spot! Water goes down very smoothly! I have some discomfort from anything other than water. I drink lemonade as it's a 'clear' liquid.
I got burnt out on chicken broth very quickly! So moving away from that was good!
