This hit me hard because I’ve received a lot of attention and been given a lot of complements since surgery, and I’ve always felt better when people didn’t see me. No matter the compliment, be proud of your accomplishments.
Thank you for this. It is truly a difficult thing to acknowledge a compliment graciously, especially, as you say, when we're used to trying not to be seen or to draw attention to our "larger than life" selves. Learning to like ourselves is an important part of this journey.
So we can try to smile, say thank you for the compliment, and allow that warmth to penetrate. Thanks for the flowers; let's choose to water them. ❤
