Water

This water intake thing has me stressed out. I drink TONS of water, it is mostly all I drink. Well over a gallon a day. I have never been a juice, coffee person. I do usually have a diet soda a day but have backed off since I know I can't have it after surgery. My concern is that I have been consciously trying to "sip" all day long to get my water in because right now I tend to chug. I will go a while and then chug .5-1 bottle at a time and I know after surgery I can't. I am failing miserably. I always feel like I am so thirsty and my mouth is so dry. More importantly I feel like it is humanly impossible for me to "sip" water. ( I know its not) Then, whenever I am sick I just never drink and get so dehydrated. So not being able to chug, and not wanting to drink while feeling like crap after surgery just has me a bit worried about getting my fluids.

Please don't despair. You've already developed an excellent water habit. Trust me, your body will help you learn to sip after surgery. You will eventually be able to drink almost normally after you are healed up, just as long as you don't overfill your new stomach. Also remember to give yourself 1/2 hour before & after eating to stop and resume drinking. You WILL be fine. Trust in the process & try to be patient please.

I chug water like I’m in a contest so I hear ya. You have time to practice. I have a water time that goes off every 30 mins to remind me to sip. It starts at 5 am. I chugged 20 oz forgetting the purpose and added the note drink 2 oz, when my notification goes off as a reminder. It’s different, but it’s a new habit. You’ll get the hang of it.

I was told no straws for drinks. I eventually became able to drink from straws about 3 months after surgery that is how I sip. No advising but it works for me. Before surgery it would take me hours to drink 12 ounce drink soda, juice, or water. I drink more now per day thank goodness.
