Weight loss stall after 8 weeks?!?!?!

I’m new to this site so excuse me for just barging in but I’m struggling. I had my gastric bypass about 2 months ago (July 23, 2019) I am a 5’1” female. My pre-op weight was 209.9. Things went great the first couple of weeks. No pain, feeling great and not even minding the liquid diet. Then at about 10 days when I was on thick liquids I couldn’t get anything in, had intense abdominal pain and a lot of dry heaving. I was rehospitalized for pain and dehydration. Discharged 3 days later and felt great again. My problem is this. Due to these factors my weight went down to 180 inside of 3 weeks. That was 5 weeks ago and I’ve only lost 5 pounds within those 5 weeks. I’m down to 175. I saw my surgeon almost 3 weeks ago and she and the dietician told me I wasn’t eating enough and that was stalling my weight loss. My goal is 80gms of protein and under 30 carbs a day (set by the clinic.)
I am getting so discouraged at #1 eating totally within my guidelines and not losing weight. #2 Being told I need to eat more and feeling like I physically can’t eat anymore. I’m eating 2 tablespoons of peanut butter a day (dietician’s advice) to try and get my calorie count and protein up. I’m trying to get 800-900 calories a day in. I’m starting to wonder if I did the right thing by having this drastic surgery done. The good news is I am diabetic and haven’t taken insulin or my 3 oral medications I was on since surgery and my blood sugars are perfect. My A1C went from 9.9 to 7.3 in 6 weeks.
Any advice or even just support would be so very welcomed. I’m glad I found this forum. Sorry this is long and winded. I had to get it all out. ~Robin

Hi Robin.. sorry to hear about your struggles.. I haven't had my surgery yet but there are lots of people here that can address your problems. I hope things get better for you. Read through some of these posts people share and finds dome good advice. Hand in there and keep us posted!

I am right there with you. I am also 5'1". I lost 6 lbs the first two weeks post surgery then did not lose anything for two weeks. I am now 6 wks out and have only lost 13 lbs since surgery. I feel very frustrated but I must be losing inches because I already had to get rid of some pants and I had to move my bra to the next clasp. It is frustrating when you do not see the scale numbers move. I am weighing on Mondays only so that I don't make myself crazy with no changes. My current weight is 166 lbs.

So glad you are off of your diabetes meds., that alone should make it worth having the surgery. I am still taking one of my diabetes meds but I do not have to take my blood pressure meds anymore, so that is good. I see the endocrinologist next Tuesday for my A1C and to see if they need to add back any more meds. I sure hope not but I was told that I will most likely always be on at least diabetes medication.

Stats:
RNY: 08/05/2019
HW: 193 lbs
SW: 179 lbs
CW: 166 lbs
GW: 120 lbs (mine) 110 (doc)

Hi Robin & welcome. :)

Unfortunately there are a few of us in your same boat right now. I lost really quickly the first 5 1/2 months and now I'm at a complete stall. I weigh in on Fridays so fingers crossed, there'll be movement tomorrow.

The way our bodies loose weight is totally unpredictable at times. I've had weeks where I'd had a few treats and still lost. Then the week before last, I did everything right and gained a pound! When I expressed worry at my appointment last week, she reiterated that now that I weigh much less, it's going to come off much slower. I know in my case, seeing such fast results had me spoiled thinking I'd continue to loose at least 3 pounds a week until I hit goal. No I know it isn't realistic.

And PS- congrats on the 35 pounds & getting off your meds! :)
