WLS after a full thyroidectomy

Has anyone here experienced a full thyroidectomy and then had a gastric bypass? I'm scheduled for surgery, but I'm a little nervous about the kind of results I can expect. The few threads I've seen on other forums indicate a general lack of success. However, I'm unclear if iris because they didn't follow the recommendations, or the lack of a thyroid continued to wreak total chaos on their lives.

Somebody who has experienced this, please respond. Thank you!!

I had a partial thyroidectomy years ago and had my gastric bypass in July 2012....i've not had any problems due to the thyroid lobectomy....you should pose this question to your physician though, and they should be aware of your past health issues before your surgery.

I personally have thpart of one

My cousin had real trouble with weight gain before the removal of her gland. She lost about 200 pounds, after her bypass. But please talk to your doctor. I use to be a nurse & know the effects patients have taking meds to replace what was once made naturally. But, call your surgeon & your specialist who preformed the gland removal. I will look up some information and pass it along. Good morning by the way.

Well, I happen to go to and appointment with my daughters doctor, she has a sluggish thyroid and low blood pressure. So, while I was there I asked about surgery when thyroid had been completely removed. He said that even though you have no thyroid you must continue to take the medication given to you for that. He said WLS can cures a lot but that the medication should be taken. You can lose weight as long as you keep your levels normal. So stop worrying and stay on your thyroid meds. I am sure your doctor knows & I doubt he would preform surgery on you if it was not going to work. Good luck,
Hugs,

Well I can so help you here, I had a total thyroidectomy on January 11, 2012 due to Papulary carcinoma cancer, I had gastric bypass Octobet1, 2012 and to this date I'm down 78 lb, I do take Synthroid medication everyday for my thyroid and will for life and yes it gets adjusted all the time but this would happen with or without WLS, I have no side effects from my Meds they work great, you will be fine they watch your levels really well, I have had NO problems at all..., good luck with you new life and enjoy :)

Oh. I’m so sorry I didn’t check dates. I was just desperate for answers. How are you feeling nowadays? I have an Endo and he’s ok. Not great, just ok. I’m looking around tho. I’m so young and I don’t want to live life as miserable as I have been.
