Wondering

I was wondering that too! I'd love to see a tally. I initially lost 115, then gained 15 back on purpose, and now fluctuate within a 10-pound range. So I figure my net loss was 100 pounds, and with the ups and downs, actually took me about 18 months.

rapid weight loss can happen for a lot of reasons. It's not necessarily a "too fast" thing. Everyone is different and loses at his/her own pace.

WWW and Bme.3, what is a weight loss in the first month, in the first two months, in the first 90 days, that you would consider too fast? Serious question.
Well my goal is 85 pds I lost 50 the first 6 weeks.
 
Well, not for nothin', but I very seriously doubt you will lose 50 lb in the next 6 weeks. More like 20 or 30. Maybe.
Basically I was wondering kinda the timeline on how the weight came off for every one. But hey i will take anything I can get.
 
I agree with Diane - the next six probably will be a little slower. I lost slowly with my original surgery, which was a lap band, but I did make it to 100 pounds within about a year. I gained about 25 back when I had issues with my band and had to convert - I did lose about 50, but gained some back again due to the GERD from sleeve. I could barely eat anything of substance, so there were a lot of slider foods, and frequent eating just to try to keep the acid at bay. I converted to bypass (although my bypass section is not as long as most because I only around 200 pounds at the time of surgery). So, that was August - by Christmas I was at about 160, and now I have steadily, but slowly dropped to 145. I do fluctuate by about 3 to 5 pounds, no matter where my weight is, which I can usually attribute to either hormones or saltier meal the day prior, not enough water, etc.
 
Dianeseattle, I don't know. That's why I asked if there was such a thing. My thought was that if the plan was followed e.g. vitamins, protein, water, etc that the weight shed was what was good for your body. So, again, is there such a thing as too fast? Bme.3, you seem to be having a good time and losing the weight. Good going, man.

I know that an extremely fast loss of weight can be equally stressing on the body, just in a different way than carrying the weight. But as you mention, if you are following plan and getting in the vitamins and such that you need, the speed should not be an issue. The real issue comes in if you are not able to get the nutrients in and/or are doing things in a way that is unhealthy, thereby exacerbating stressors on the body.
 
Going back to my spreadsheet:
  • I lost 25.6 pre-surgery
  • Lost another 51.4 at 3 months post-op
  • Lost another 29.6 at 6 months post-op
  • Then slowed way down
  • Lost another 15.8 at 9 months
  • Lost another 4 before body contouring (6 weeks)
  • Lost 10.2 of skin from body contouring
  • Lost another 1.8 since surgery
  • Total of 138.4 lost for the year

When I lived in North Bend, I worked on the pass and enjoyed the skiing too. When I lived in Port Angeles, I hiked the low divide a couple of times on week-long treks. I fully appreciate your love of those activities. Skiing is wonderful here in northern Arizona and when I get closer to my goal I do want to get back on the slopes.
 
I lost 8 during pre-op diet.
7 @ 1st week post surgery.
12 @ 2nd week post surgery
16 over the next 4 weeks
Then 1-2 pounds per week since, with 2x stall weeks during my 5th & 6th months. I'm 3 days from my 7-month mark, and down 70 total.

It is slowing down, but I am okay with that. If it takes another year or two to drop my last 20, fine. Slow is still losing.

BTW I remember looking at the scales with disbelief during the first few weeks as I lost more weight than could be accounted for. According to everything science out there, my starting BMR meant 2200 calories per day to maintain weight. And...to lose each pound requires a caloric deficit of about 3500. So 7 days @ 2200 = 15,400. If eating zero, that should be 15,400/3500 for pounds lost or around 4.4 per week. Yet we all have experienced MUCH higher weight loss spurts, usually right after surgery and when we are doing little else than sitting around and healing. It really makes me question what we think we know about nutrition & weight management.
 
Hi everyone. I lost 54 lbs in one year with the gastric sleeve. The first 2 months I lost 8-10 lbs a month then it slowed to 1-2 lbs per month. In the past 3 months I have plateaued with small gain of 1-2 lbs per month. The slow down is because I still snack, have head hunger or overeat. The sleeve stops (punishes) my overeating but still figuring it out.
 
BTW, I've been considering a move to Bisbee, but I hate rattlesnakes and black widow spiders!

Oh, I love Bisbee! We dress 1880's and visit Bisbee and Tombestone a whole lot. When I lose my weight I'll be able to get back into my corset!

Rattlers are kind of a way of life from Tax Day to Octoberfest. My dogs go through training. I always wear my hearing aids.

Tucson has some great doctors and hospitals. The University of Arizona medical school is very well known. You'll be close to good doctors should you need them.

P.S. I graduated from Mount Si High School. Guess that's why I'm fat. I was built to work in the fields. hahaha
