Migraines

Does anyone suffer really bad migraines? I have some of the most debilitating migraines. I was told by the Barbaric doctor that I should see a difference in them after my surgery. I hope so. That would be such a great side benny. My neurologist referred me to a pain doctor for my headaches because he couldn't do anything else for me.

I do to. I was taking 100mg Topamax but stopped myself from taking it because I can't deal with the side effects. 1. it makes you completely stupid, 2. It makes you tired 3. one of the side effects is weight loss but if you need to lose weight you more than likely wont 4. It screws with your short term memory and I mean like....what was I saying yea exactly 5. horrible cotton mouth mixed with a stutter. 6. the tingles no not good tingles but your feet feeling like they are perpetually waking up from being asleep. pins and needles that no amount of rubbing or stomping got rid of and guess what that's a sign that its working. 6 squirrel yes I said squirrel you could be talking and having a convo...SQUIRREL.

The way I describe Topamax is this: imagine your brain now as a indie 500 race track and your thoughts and neurotransmitters are the cars lapping this track and boom a migraine comes and its a massive take 4 days to clear pile up. Now on Topamax your brain is still the indie 500 track and your thoughts and neurotransmitters are still the cars but the indie cars are switched out and are now bumper cars and everything just bounces right off of each other. You have no more migraines but your brain is mush filled with bumper cars.

So basically if you got put on the spot you are a bumbling fumbling stuttering moron no matter how high your IQ is.

I know my body well enough to know when one is coming and the very second I feel one on coming I pop 2 caffeine tabs and 2 Tylenol and I drop the temp and dim the lights. That combo of stuff usually stops it in its tracks. I am going to ask my surgeon when I see him tomorrow if I can continue to do that or if I would have to swallow punctured liquid gels with coffee.

I have been on topamax but at a much higher dosage. I was taking 400mg twice a day. The worst for me was the dopiness and the memory. At that time my grandchild was 2 1/2. I couldn't function like that and from there I was weaned off of the Topamax and the neurologist had me try everything by mouth that I could take. Nothing worked. I had the botox injections and they did not work. So I am really hoping that it will be a side benny for me. @Karenina I had a hysterectomy my in 2009 for health reasons and it didn't help my migraines at all.

Its an insane medication. Since I stopped taking it I still haven't had a migraine but I can also function at my normal level and not my moronic level.

My son suffered from debilitating migraines when he was in middle school. His neurologist had on him stadol for pain relief.
They eventually found out he had a form of hydrocephalus that when treated stopped his migraines.

What helps a lot too for run of the mill migraines is knowing what triggers them. Hopefully they get much better after surgery. They were horrible while I was pregnant. I could hear my heartbeat in my ears like I was listening to it on an ultrasound machine.

I have horrible migraines. I am currently on Topamax 100 mg at night and it still has the horrible side effects. I have botox every 3 months. Have thought about a pain specialist, but not sure about them. Don't know what they do. Mine have not gotten better since surgery.

I was hoping for relief but I've lived with these headaches for so long I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have them any more. We will see after I have my surgery.
