Tilapia recipe

I have always been afraid to try cooking fish (other than fish sticks lol). But I recently received some frozen sockeye salmon filets from our local food pantry. They had directions for oven baking them while frozen, so I figured why not? Other than changing the temp from 425° to 400°, the directions were spot on, and they turned out great!

Today I found frozen tilapia filets on sale at Kroger's. 2lbs for $7.99 Woohoo! I also cooked them up frozen, and they turned out tender, juicy, and flaky. I thought I would pass along the recipe for anyone one else fearing fish filet failure lol

I used a big cake pan, I think 9 X 13, and a couple inches deep. I lined it with foil, and sprayed it with Pam, my new best friend
Preheat oven to 400°
Lay out the fish filets to cover the bottom of the pan. Skin side or flat side down.
Season to taste. I use:
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Tony Chachere Creole seasoning
Ground black pepper

Bake uncovered for 15-20 minutes depending on thickness if frozen.
Bake 10-12 minutes if thawed. Checked after 8 minutes for doneness.
No need to turn them.

Fish should be flaky when they are fully cooked. Lots of protein, and oh so yummy! Forget breaded fried fish. This is the way to go fer sure.

A whole panful for $8 is right in my budget. Enjoy!

I used to eat fish a lot (not sticks). As you said, YUMMY! Unfortunately my tummy no longer likes fish or chicken. I still eat them, but in misery. I'm glad you found a healthy, but still delicious, way to eat it. Great protein source.
