NSV - What are yours???

Congrats to everyone on the NSVs - amazing! My biggest NSV is going from 9 diabetic pills a day (4 metformin, 4 glipizide, 1 Actos) to now zero diabetic pills a day woohoo! My other NSVs are that I no longer have back pain, all over inflammation, nor CPAP-required sleep apnea. My coworkers could tell I look less stressed and more rested.

My other NSVs are that I no longer have CPAP-required sleep apnea and that I am now under 144 lb. The last time I weighed 144 was when I got married (to my now ex-husband) back in 1993! Wow that was a lifetime ago!
That's incredible Amailyn! To be healthy enough to get off the meds has to be the best feeling!!! And to be able to sleep peacefully... Ahh. I'm so happy for you!

I’ve spent this week hiking up in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, staying in a log cabin with a real fire. I beat my husband up the Crabtree Falls trail! Couldn’t have done that before surgery.

I, too, had a NSV this week. As many of you know, besides knowing that the surgery would lead to a healthier life, my main reason was to reduce the amount of RX's I take each day. This week I had an appointment with my primary Dr to go over the blood test I took last week. He was extremely pleased with the results and went over each of the Rx's that I take. (While in the Hospital, after my surgery, I was taken off Metformin, for pre-diatetes and two other Rx's and all over the counter vitamins and supplements). My Doctor took me off of one of my blood pressure pills, my cholesterol pill, and the one for triglycerides. He said that he wants me to have another blood test after the Holidays to check my numbers. Also, if after losing more weight, I begin feeling dizzy or lightheaded to call him and he'll reduce the blood pressure pill to a lower dose. I am taking chewable vitamins 4 times each day, suggested by the nutrictionist and since I wasn't low in anything, I know that they are working, too. I am thrilled!!

My latest NSV has been that I can now do yard work in a comfortable manner. To be more concise I am referring to cleaning up leafs around the yard. For years I have had one of those big back pack style leaf blowers and the past few years because of my weight I would last about an hour walking around with the thing on my back before I would have to stop because my back would be killing me and for some reason it would feel like pins and needles in my legs. Last weekend I decided to blow the leafs around and other than stopping to put gas in the tank I did it for 4 hours (yes i have a lot of leafs to blow around) with no pain. I figured that I would wake up last Sunday sore all over and didn't even have any discomfort or soreness. It is amazing that over the past 3.5 months that I am now down 125 pounds and felt so good after doing this last weekend that I did part of the yard again last night for 2 hours.

Julie, that is a freaking adorable photo. I love Smokey the Bear and I'm so glad to see you standing next to him in his habitat. There is nothing like a nature hike or camping outside, and that is something that takes very little effort to set up, and a lot of effort to pull off.
Thanks Diane, we just got home after a 10 hour drive. It was a fantastic vacation for us, our first time away for 18 months. We spent our days sight seeing and hiking, and our evenings chatting on the balcony and wallowing in the hot tub with a glass of wine ;) I cannot believe how much my health has improved, if you remember the state I was in when I first came here. Thanks for your support!

Wonderful news Roseanne! How exciting. :)

Sportsdad, you have come a long long way. Congratulations on this NSV. I'm sure you have a lot of them and each time we have one, it's like It's a Wonderful Life where every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings. Every NSV, we get more lift on our wings.
Thank you Diane. It is amazing how much this operation has given me my life back! My only regret with having the procedure is that I didnt do it sooner.

My NSV is I'm currently wearing my hubby's pj bottoms.. my previous "winter pjs" are entirely too big, and well I'm cold all the time.. so I went "shopping" in his dresser. they are a tad too long but they fit nicely. My hubs is almost 6 ft tall and weighs maybe 170, lol, so he's pretty thin.. I wasn't sure if they'd fit but they do. (HW: 340 SW:320 CW: 198. Sx date 9/17/19)

Great job and congratulations to everyone on their NSV! We have all accomplished so much from the date of our surgeries!!

Wow all these NSVs are very inspiring! Congrats to ALL of you!!! My NSV for this week has been gaining back some mobility. I can now walk around the block which may sound lame but I've been pretty immobile and also had a little fear of going too far and being ok. I think that comes from me being so sick after surgery and passing out a couple of times leading me back in the hospital twice. (I had sepsis) So not only am I regaining my mobility but regaining my confidence. Baby steps can turn into victories! :)

I don't really post a lot of threads - but I recently had a NSV - Non Scale Victory - that made a more significant impact on me than looking at the number on the scale. I know - weird right??? What could possibly be more of a victory than seeing that number on the scale keep going down?

Well at my heaviest I weighed 250 pounds - I was also pregnant. I've truly been all over the spectrum of the "SCALE" for years. I've been thin, thick, thicker & pregnant, and just plane ole hefty! My husband and I have been together a lot of years. I was a size 12 or so when I met my husband. Just to be fair - he wore 30x32 jeans when we met. For the first 9 years of our marriage - we had 2 girls. My closet literally had clothes from size 12 to 24 - tops - bottoms - maternity - dresses - coats - it was all there. Flash forward a few years and we now have 5 girls. I'm at my absolute heaviest - when I wasn't pregnant 220 and at 5'4" I was round.

As the weather is starting to change I knew I was going to need jeans. I've bought a few clothing items since surgery - the not knowing when the weight loss will stop - I tried to buy things that I could still wear as I lost more weight. I went and actually bought jeans this weekend. Most of the clothing stores in our area are not allowing people in the dressing rooms. You have to buy it and hope it fits - if not you have to return/exchange it. Well I bought a size 12 jeans. I got home and just hung them in the closet - figured I'd wear them out the next day or so. I put the 12's on - they were TOO BIG. I returned them for a 10 - they were also TOO BIG! I ended up with an 8! I have NEVER worn any pants or other bottom apparel in a SINGLE DIGIT!!! I screamed and my husband came running with his gun in hand - he said I sounded like I was in pain. No sweetheart - just freaking SHOCK! It's amazing that something so innocuous or mundane could have such an impact.

I know I've lost a bit of weight. But I'm not sure that it had actually sunk in until I pulled those size 8 jeans up and they buttoned and zipped - without having to lay on the bed, hold my breath, and in really severe cases call in reinforcements. This was an awesome thing. It may sound weird - stupid - or whatnot to others but it allowed me to know that I'm doing the best I can for me!

The top jeans are size 24, the middle jeans are size 12, the bottom jeans are size 8!!

That's amazing. I'm so happy for you! I'm nervous about having surgery. With the success, you've experienced is there anything you would say to someone considering the surgery but is terribly afraid?

Hi Lindsey -

Don't let fear hold you back. I'm paraphrasing Rosa Parks - "Once you make up your mind to do something - it will diminish the fear - knowing what you must do does away with the fear". Being nervous and fearful of the "unknown" are normal. Don't sit on the sideline of your life - live it!!! You GOT this!!

I truly wished I'd the surgery sooner. No matter when it was done - it truly was what was/is best for me. I continue to see changes in myself - my husband - my children. All of our lives are better because of the surgery. We eat healthier - we are more active together. Before surgery - the last time I went to the mall I couldn't walk around. I rode my scooter. We had to take that thing everywhere. We took it on vacation - I would have to take it to the fair - anywhere that required walking - I had to take my scooter.

We took a family vacation in August of this year and went to the beach - I LOVE the beach. My 80 year old parents went with us. Between my parents - older girls and their spouses - there was 11 people in the condo. We took 2 scooters this year - and NEITHER of them was for ME!! My mom and my dad rode the scooters.

I walked my happy narrow ass all over the place! It was amazing!! Who knew that walking on the beach hand in hand with your husband could mean so much? My girls and I walked every morning to a nutrition shop and had shakes for breakfast! IF -and that's a HUGE IF- I ever have grandchildren I'll be able to enjoy them. I won't be sitting there wishing I could.

I truly wish you the very best of luck on this amazing life altering journey!

My NSV would be having my wedding rings sized.... down a size and a half. And last week I mentioned being a little worried about voting because my drivers license doesn't look the same, my husband looked at it and actually took my picture holding it, a mutual friend didn't even know it was me holding the license on the picture. Just amazing! 8 months post-op and I've lost 97lbs!
