The "Weird" Things We Eat

I thought it might be interesting, maybe, to read what "strange" food combinations people eat post-surgery. I'm talking about the foods/meals you eat that make other people's faces sort of scrunch up and say, "Um, what?"

One reason I'm interested in this is that I'm really trying to force myself out of my food comfort zone and eat an ever-growing diversity of foods and food combinations. I've expanded my food selections greatly over the past year. It's helped keep my daily routine interesting and not the same stuff day after day. However, there are a few things that I eat very often, too.

Here's my "weird food" (which may not sound weird to you, but it did to me the first time I considered it):

Toast, with a layer of sauerkraut, topped with smashed avocado, topped with a fried egg.

That seemed very odd when I first saw it, but I LOVE IT. It's high in fiber, good fat, good protein, and is probiotic. It's very satiating. The sauerkraut and avocado complement each other with the sour cutting the fat at the same time as the fat subdues the sour. The egg actually, to me, makes the entire thing taste and have a similar texture to an egg salad sandwich.

So that's one of my weird things....what do you eat that other people find a bit odd, or you think they would find odd?

Oh my! They did that to a Corny Dog? We think they were invented at the State Fair of Texas by Mr.Fletcher, who is Fletcher's Famous Corny Dogs. Of course we think everything was invented in Texas. Oh by the way, the State Fair has this food contest each year and they have some weird stuff.

My gramma used to make what she called "Potato Boats". They are a hot dog, sliced in half long way, covered in mashed potatoes, which are then covered in a slice of kraft singles and put under the broiler until the cheese is just turning brown. Literally everyone I have ever fed this to is like "WTF" and then "OMG! This is so good" after the first bite. My BFF still makes it herself.
Sadly, I cannot eat hot dogs anymore. Well, not so sadly since now the whole thing sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen lol

I would have been all-in on that in my former life! lol

That sounds really good actually!

I eat a hot dog at least once a week one of my favorites but not lwith mashed potatoes and cheese. Just a regular hotdog on a bun with mustard and relish. Every once in a while I’ll have a Chicago dog
What's a Chicago dog? A typical WV dog comes with sauce, slaw, mustard & onions. The sauce is a homemade chili meat sauce (no beans!)

We have tons of hotdog stands here in WV, so many that yesterday our downtown dedicated an entire day to the annual Hotdog Festival with a dozen family-owned hotdog vendors, live music, dog costumes, but they had to cancel the weiner dog race and the 5K bun fun run/walk. Funds raised go to the local children's hospital.
