Two weeks post-op...

It's been awhile since I've been here, but I had my RNY two weeks ago yesterday. It's been easier than I could have ever imagined it would be, and I feel blessed for that. The only issue that I'm having is extreme fatigue. I have multiple sclerosis and PKD so fatigue is nothing new for me, BUT I can't sleep. I have NEVER had a problem falling or staying asleep before. I can literally fall sleep anytime and anywhere...it's not unusual for me to sleep 12-13 hours a day. I would typically take medication to help me stay awake, but it suppresses my appetite. I'm only eating around 400 calories a day, I don't need to eat any less than that. So basically, I'm more exhausted than ever, but I can't sleep and I don't know why. I'm curious to know if anyone else has had issues with being able to fall asleep after surgery? I'm not in pain or uncomfortable, I just can't fall asleep.

I didn't experience the sleeplessness you are having. I did have quite a bit of fatigue after a short burst of energy following surgery. My pcp explained that mainly was due to the extremely low calories from the liquid diet. She said that the body is going through the equivalent of a (temporary) starvation diet. Low calories can equal low energy, fatigue, etc. But bc I didn't have insomnia, she didn't mention that. If it continues, and especially if it interferes with your daily life, you probably should check with your weight loss surgery team. Good luck.

I am four days post op, and feel the same— I’m exhausted, but can’t sleep! I’m hoping this will pass soon— and would love any advice out there—
It’s 4:20am as I write this :(

I’m having issues with my sleep schedule and I just had surgery on Tuesday. My stomach hurts a lot still from the gas so I was blaming my insomnia on the pain keeping me up.

I keep falling asleep. I have been in and out of consciousness. I have finished one protein shake almost 32 oz of liquid. (including the one protein shake). Gas pain is not as bad as the incision pain. The sleep is not restful just lots of catnaps.

My sleep is not restful either. I slept in like 15 min intervals tonight and I’m exhausted. Hope you have a speedy recovery❤️
