9 years post surgery-never had followup or support-Now I REALLY need!

Hello I am 9 years post surgery tomorrow. My doctor closed his practice and I never had follow-up after a couple months or any support group at all. Literally did it on my own and did pretty good. Kept the weight off for 6-7 years and then it slowly started to come back on, especially the last 2 which is when I started to have a lot of intestinal issues. Not one doctor could tell me what was going on until one day, during a pancake breakfast I ended up in the hospital. A hospital doctor told me after a few days there that she had a therory and I was like - OMG - of course. Dumping syndrome. I had never even had it after surgery but one time so it wasn't on my radar, even though I continually told doctors that I was concerned that was going on with me had to do with my surgery. Anyway, long story, short - changing my diet and back to basics. I have never even been on bariatric vitamins and now have them. So now I need all your help if you could to get me back on track. When I first had my surgery I was 245 and it took me well over a year to get down to 170. Not my goal weight but again, on my own I thought was not bad. I am now up to 201 and getting the dumping under control but need emotional support. I am having an agiogram tomorrow for some heart thing and after that is taken care of I am joining a health program at the local hospital but I know this is only a start. I believe a lot of this started in 2015 when my spouse suddenly passed away and my eating habits and exercise most likely dramatically changed. Anyway, that is my sob story - don't even know how to participate in such a group but know that I am ready and open. Thank you one and all for any and all.

Hi and welcome! We're happy to have a new veteran join us. :)

Congratulations on deciding to get back to basics. And thank goodness you got some bariatric vitamins, you really need them. Do you have a primary care doctor? You should probably see one ASAP to have a full blood workup done. You may be in need of additional supplements since you hadn't been on them before. You should be working with a doctor for the rest of your life after this surgery so if you don't already have a good one, I'd make that my first priority.

And you did just fine with your first post. :) Please keep writing.

I do have a great primary doctor. I also consulted a new bariatric doctor that told me about the vitamins and basically got me to understand where I really am even at. I will not see him except as needed. He ordered a full blood workup and will let me know if I need to adjust anything other than adding in the new vitamins so far. He will be my go to doc for the rest of my life. Thank you... How do I do something like you did on your post for the route and such

Welcome,

You just took the first step in participating. Congratulations on finding a wonderful resource and great group of people.
It sounds like you have a good plan to get back on track. It’s important to make sure you have reliable support systems in place.

Hope to hear more from you in the future.

That's awesome, sounds like you're in good hands then. :)

If you want to reply to someone, you'll just click on "Reply" at the bottom right corner of their message:

You'll also see the "Like" button next to it. If you enjoy something someone says or just want to show your support, clicking on this will show that person that. After so many, the person will get discounts to products that this site sells to so be sure to "Like" as much as you can. :)

I didn’t know about the “like rule”, thanks for letting us know.

You can get the slide rule of weight loss by going to Forums> Forum guides and updates> Beginners guide to getting started on the forums. There's a document; find the part about inserting the ticker. You have to jump through several hoops, but i'm new to the group, and just achieved putting my ticker up. Yay me. Now I have to figure out how to put writing under my ticker, like Brenda 2010 has, for example.
