Hey everyone. I had gastric bypass 10 yrs ago. I've occasionally had pain, below the breastbone, usually when I eat too many bad things. I take prilosec & it goes away. 3 weeks ago it started up again. This time the pain feels like a belt being tightened around me. I've got constant indigestion, nausea, bloating, and pain. Wakes me up at night. I'm taking prilosec (2 tabs daily) and tums and tylenol. My question, could I have an ulcer? It almost feels like a gallbladder attack, but that's been gone 15 yrs! Next question, i no longer live in the state i had my surgery & haven't done any follow up by a specialist in 6 yrs. Can a regular gastric dr treat my issues or do I need to find a dr that specializes in the weight loss surgery? With the covid19 stuff, I'm genuinely afraid of going to a dr. Thoughts?

See if your primary physician is doing virtual visits. If so, schedule one and see what they have to say. They might be able to put you on something stronger than Prilosec.

I feel for you. I had my gallbladder removed a couple years after my surgery but the pain has never left. I had a hernia post op but my pain feels more like what you describe. I finally went to accupuncture for a totally unrelated problem but it changed my life. So much that I actually gained weight for the first time since surgery. I originally lost too much weight due to the burning and nausea but after accupuncture the issue was just gone. I can’t explain it, it just worked. I have had a negative colonoscopy and upper GI. Prilosec never helped. Sorry this is so long but I also moved from the state where I had surgery. I spent so much time and money on drs that WERE NOT bariatric surgeons. They don’t know what they don’t know. Find a bariatric doctor and go there. VR is offered almost everywhere now. Good luck to you.
