2 weeks post op sleeve with questions.

I had gastric sleeve 2 weeks ago. Most times when I am drinking water or eating the soft foods I start having cramps behind my breastbone where my stomach begins. None of my friends have had this problem. I can't get down enough water because it starts cramping. Any suggestions? I'm trying to eat slowly. I also never feel full or like I've eaten too much. And I have not experienced nausea at all which I hear is very uncommon.

Hello Lana,

I am 2 months out so I may not be the one you need to answer this for you. I suggest you call your surgeon and your bariatric doctor to see what is going on. You do not want to get dehydrated and it is possible that you can if you are not getting in enough fluids. I drank g2 gatorades from the beginning and I still do. Especially if I am working out. I myself had really bad nausea and vomiting and stayed in the hospital for a week. I still experience waves of nausea depending on what I eat. As far as vomiting I still do every now and then. Call your surgeon and docs and see what they have to say. Trust me no question is a dumb one they will and they should answer anything you need to know. Good luck and keep us posted.

Have you tried changing the temperature of your fluids? Maybe what you're drinking is too cold. I have the problem you are describing, but it's only when I eat or drink too fast.

I am in the middle of my 3rd week post op, and the only soft food I can eat is cream soups. My doc advised I take small sips no gulping or big drinks, it seems like it takes me from the time I get up until I go to bed to get in my fluids. The pain could be due to "fullness" but I think you should make the Dr. aware of it. One thing I have noticed is I still feel the hunger at times even though it's been said that after surgery for at least 6 months the hormone that lets your brain and body know that you're hungry is practically non-existent, so I don't know what's going on there with me. I guess everyone is different. Good luck in your weight loss.

I went to the dr today. She says the pain is from the food rubbing against the sutured areas. She did an upper GI just to make sure and all was well. I do better with creamy things too. It takes me all day to get the liquids down as well and I'm still short. I guess we just have to do what we can. I have tried all temperatures. No difference really. Thanks for the advice and good luck to everyone. I hope this endeavor makes all our lives more pleasant !

Glad that everything turned out to be ok. Better to know what is going on instead of worrying. I had pain about a week after I got out of the hospital and they had me to go in and do bloodwork and I had to have a cat scan of my belly. Everything turned out ok as well but, I needed to up my fluid intake. Creamy soups worked well for me as well and I still do creamy soups. I eat eggs, and grilled chicken but, I still fall back on my soups because they sit well.
