7 days after surgery

So, i had gastric bypass surgery on May 31st, 2019. Its been a long hard road since i had the surgery, but i would definately do it again. Some things to have pre-op are your iquid pain meds and liquid tylenol at home , prior to surgery. Also, have your fridge and freezer filled with whatever phase food you at in. ..ie. phase 1 clear liquid was where i started post op. Once your admitted, have your nurse order an abdomen compression belt. It helps once your out of surgery, it holds everything in place. I still wear mine seven days post oppt. As far as what to wear while in the hospital, what worked for me was to wear their big gown on front and wear my robe when walking the halls. Also wear earpluggs when trying to sleep. Now im gonna be real, the pain is terrible when your first out of surgery but they keep it at bey with the pain meds and tylenol. Keep up with having them as prescribed. Hang in there the pain gets better each day. Also , walk the halls to get rid of gas from surgery, that also releaves pain and pressure. Just thought id give an ubdate and hopefully was helpfull

Hi Weezy- You have now graduated into the Bariatric world! Sounds like you are doing great! Take your time getting back to normal foods and drink the shakes and water. Keep us informed of your progress!

I hope each day is better and better;! Thank you for the advice most of all!! The belt and frozen fazes are something I will make note if. I have started a pre surgery check list. A little O C D ok??? But thank you again.

Haha, I can totally relate Redy! You should see the crazy spreadsheet of my weight fluctuations going back 10 years complete with graphs, charts and projected losses through this first year post-op. o_O

Thank you for that post op advice. Haven’t had surgery yet coming though the the pre op steps. It’s go to know what I need to have on hand after.

That was good advice. And weezy I am so glad you got to check in with us. I love how you are happy about the surgery already. I will be joining you soon. My heart doctor is wednesday and I have the medical clearance for the 18th and if everything gets in early then they can move my date up from the 15th of July. Hope all gets better and remember to take your time and heal like the doctors say.

I found out from my surgeons nurse that the belt isnt a good idea because it weakens the belly muscles. Just an FYI

I'm sorry Weezy but I just cannot understand how any surgeon who cuts into the belly would not want the patient to have support so sewed stitches didn't come out, Staples didn't pull out other disastrous things happen. They give you these belts before they send you home. And you are free to use them as long as you want to. You are not going to be doing ab crunches anytime soon. But you do need to make sure that everything stays in place and that you have less pain. The ab belt will do that for you.

I am 12 years out, and I wore my ab belt probably for a year after surgery. I had some nerve damage so it was especially important to keep me from being in pain. I do exercises whenever I feel like it and I do not think my stomach muscles have suffered a bit. I'm actually kind of skinny. As I lost inches, I had to cut my belt down. But guess what? I still have it in the drawer with my lingerie. It's good for back support too.
Oh wow, worked for you. Im not sure why my surgeons nurse has a differant opinion. Im doing ok without the belt, so im gonna continue without it. I did keep it tho, just in case

Although I haven't had my surgery yet, I agree with Diane. Those belts are designed for our type of surgery. Just as back braces for spinal surgery patients. I plan on getting one if not provided by Dr. It's pretty amazing what they do to us! Any I mean any thing that helps in healing I'm all for!!
