Hello All! I had the gastric bypass surgery 3 1/2 years ago and in a nutshell did not do very well. For one reason and a whole bunch of others I still find food as my comforting source. My surgeon told me that I was his worst patient ever (so I showed him and just never went back). Well I know I need support, and hope to find it here. Im new to this site, so all encouragement is welcome. Im in Southern CA (Ventura County). If you know of any local face-to-face support groups please let me know. Thanks! Naydee

Hi Naydee, Welcome. We alll have our struggles with food, mine worst enemy was boredome eating and steak and potatoes and potatoes and potatoes:rolleyes: (I always craved starches), I still do crave potatoes but I only eat them in moderation 1/4 to 1/2 a serving depending on preperation, spagettie and lasagna were also favorites of mine but they are completely out of the question, they make me dump:(, thats OK though.

Enough about me though, sometimes we sabatage ourselves and your Doc may have given you the perfect excuse to do so:eek: Well lets make your doctor wrong! You still have the R n Y and that's not going anywhere. I can't know for sure but if I had to guess the WLS did not make you intolerant to sweets and starches, if so that's not your fault, for some reason not everyone gets dumping syndrom from anything they eat so it make it soooo easy to fall back into old habits, but either way you can start from the begining. First things first don't beat your self up, whats done is done, next search for a nutritionist in your area that specializes in bariatrics and our dietary needs, they may also be able to help you find a support group, if you are neer Santa Barbara or Simi then there should be pleanty of resources in either area.

You are not the first one for this to happen to like you said there are many reasons sometimes injuries, sometimes moving away from family support, etc.... but the important thing is you want to do something about it and thats a Great start, feastorfamine (Patti) on this forum had gone through the same thing so if you PM her she can point you in the right direction with the 7 day pouch test. There are a great bunch of folks here for support and we are all in different stages of our journey and we are all here to support each other. Let us know what you find out and hang in there you can do it. Tom

Hi Naydee, I'm sorry to hear that you are going through so much. There is a great weigh loss support group that is nationwide and support all forms of weight loss, yes even surgery. They have a website and it has a link to find a local chapter. WWW.TOPS.ORG it is Take Off Pounds Sensibly.....I have been a member for years, and have managed to keep 30 lbs off but I have had lots of trouble getting under 250. I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, mild depression, mild anxiety and fibromyalgia and a prolapsed bladder. My doctors recommended WLS so I can lose the weight quicker in order to have the surgery for my bladder. I wish you luck finding support and please hang in there and keep us posted. Gloria

Hi Gloria! Thank you for the TOPS suggestion. I had totally forgot about that group. Many many years ago I used to be a part of TOPS and Im so glad you reminded me. I am gonna look up a local chapter. 3 years ago I had the surgery, lost 65 lbs, but 6 months into it, I was walking and was run over by a car and was down for about 5 months recovering so with no exercise at all, even though I couldnt eat much still with the fact that I wasnt moving it really slowed things down, then in the midst of that (happily), I met a great guy and the dating fun started so dinners, brunches, late night coffee and dessert didnt help either and now Ive gained 30 of those pounds back. Im getting married in 2 months and would really like to lose those 30 lbs by then.

I hope your surgery goes well, and it would be great to hear of your success.
