Blood work test results

Had my initial bloodwork completed this morning and I already have the results! Now I KNOW I should NOT be trying to interpret them as I have no medical training, but looks like my IRON/IRON Saturation/IRON Binding is all not normal. Has anyone else had iron issues??? Worry the doc is gonna say he cant do the surgery cause I am broken. Any positive info out there?

there are a few members who've wandered through here who mentioned needing iron infusions. If you're reading your metabolic panel & finding anything outside the normal range, you're right to be concerned. I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be adding iron to your daily supplements, though. Women especially need to watch for calcium and iron uptake, as the uptake is seriously affected by malabsorption. Good for you for reading your results. You're the one who needs to stay on top of this. Here's what I take:

Daily supplements???? are you assuming I actually take vitamins??? LOL. I should really get on with that ;). Research here I come!
THANK YOU Diane! Your such a support!

I used to think vitamins were fake! I'm a big label reader & it was confusing, what they claimed. But when I was told I had to take them, and there was blood taken for metabolic panels, I saw that at least some of the vitamins are real. I hope you will get on those supplements of your choice, but have to say, maybe you should call your surgeon and ask if there are any supplements you shouldn't take before surgery. Sometimes things can happen, like a pill you take that thins the blood too much or can cause uncontrollable bleeding.
I see my dietician for the first time on Tuesday. Ill see what they think

My initial bloodwork was the same. My dr had me start the iron supplements right away and things have been fine since then. I don't think it should cause any problems with the surgery itself :)

I’ve dealt with anemia - specifically thalassemia. And I’ve had low iron for a while now. I had my surgeon review it and he did not think it was an issue. Talk with your surgeon and see what his thoughts are. My PCP has recommended I have a colonoscopy to determine the source to make sure there was no other underlying issue. I had the colonoscopy and it came out normal. Stay positive and keep us updated! Sending positive thoughts your way
