I am no longer really nervous about getting the gastric bypass surgery. My only real concern is how I am going to pay for it, we have Blue Cross Blue Shield so I am having it at one of their approved places, my question is will it be completely covered or will I still have to pay?

I can't answer this definitively but if they have clinics, they should be able to. Obviously you're one of their target markets.

I think as a rule of thumb, insurance pays 80 percent coverage on health, auto, home, etc., but that's not a hard fact. I made a deal with my hospital because I was on SSDI and Medicaid at the time, so I didn't pay a penny and they gave me a huge discount. That was 20 years ago, before WLS became so popular and insurance companies started lining up to lure customers in.

Still, I feel safe saying you would never be asked to pay more than 20 percent of a procedure as long as you have insurance, Now, ask Blue Cross specifically and they will definitely give you a good idea.

Are you using a program like Lantern?
I have Anthem and they will only cover bariatric surgery if you use their surgery program, Lantern.
I have to use one of their preselected surgeons. I have found one from the list they provided me that I really like and I'm moving forward with the process. Her office is about a 2 hour drive from me, but Lantern gives me $100 every time I have to go there to cover gastric. They will also pay for a hotel if needed, and will cover the hotel stay for my husband when I have my surgery.
The Dr has done some of my appointments virtually so I did not have to drive there.
So far it has been a pretty good process.
I do know the whole thing is covered with Lantern, I do not even have to pay my deductible.
