Did anyone have difficulty getting rid of your old clothes after weight loss surgery

Did anyone have difficulty getting rid of your old clothes after weight loss surgery, i dont why im have hard time getting rid of clothes when I weight over 600 lbs, half the clothes I use to wear where homemade by mom and i, Also I think when I throw them away or give them away i think i might need them again for some reason

I got rid of mine very quickly. I have some pants that are a size bigger than what I’m in now, but nothing more than that. I’m in a 14 or large, and I won’t keep anything bigger than a 16. Most of my tops are large, I have one medium, and a couple really big hoodies (for snuggly comfort), but nothing bigger. I felt wonderful getting rid of things, but I always feel good when I clean out anything.

Sents they are homemade have you thought about making a quilt out of them you could still have the memory of them being made for you. I have had no problem getting Reid of my clothes because I feel I will never be able to wear them again and my way of getting into clothes that fit nice and not hang I lost 53 lbs before surgery and started getting Reid of them as fast as I could had my surgery on June 23rd for the sleeve while the doctor started he found I had a hiena hernia and had to fix it I’m in a lot of pain from that but on my way to feeling better if I was you I would not feel bad about getting Reid of the clothes I deterred not to gain my weight back because I never could be a diabetic again. Good luck

I had the exact opposite problem. I felt like if I kept them, I was inviting myself to gain the weight back and fit in them. So, as soon as something was too big, it was given away. I kept my bathing suit for my 1 year picture. The next time I left the house, I dropped it in the donation box. I do have a couple of things now that are a size bigger but super comfy.

April I do understand the difficulty (lets face it - for me it is fear) of getting rid of your clothes. I am almost at the four month mark and have lost 60lbs. I have lost weight on my own without having surgery and obviously just regained it. I had totes of clothes in a multitude of sizes so I haven't had to buy many things, I have just been able to dig out the next tote of a smaller size. I have packed up each tote of too big and packed them away - I am terrified of gaining the weight back yet also afraid of just giving away a ton of clothes. I know in my head that this time is going to be different because I had the surgery and it's not all just going to come right back, but that still doesn't stop the fear so I hold on to them for now. I do have a plan though - at my one year anniversary the plan is to start giving away a tote (size) per month.
I think the others have some great suggestions since you have some homemade items - hold on to a few that are special to you, keep a momento to look back at years from now to show you what great progress you have made.

Recently I have started to purge all of my 7xl shirts since they are now down to my knees and my wife and kids beg me to buy new clothes. I just tend to take a pair of scissors and cut off all of the excess material that I no longer need. I have given in and did buy a few 2xl shirts to wear in public but for around the house and working out I just get out the scissors and recycle all of the clothes I already have.

My best friend just asked me what I am doing with my clothes that don’t fit. Some of my clothes are barely worn (maybe two times or not even at all). They are a little over a year old after getting them for a job that I was let go from A year ago June. there are 5 outfits for casual work primarily 2x - 3x, blue green brown black and two other colors., I converted to leggings/cuddle duds after stopping work. I now have 2x shorts that keep falling down to my hips when I am outside. I love these shorts, but they won’t work past this summer. . I found some clothes in the basement that were smaller that I can wear from 2016. I have to treat them for mildew but they fit. 2 pair of capris. I made my mind up that I wasn’t buying any new clothes till after my 1 year anniversary date for surgery. I did put on the bottom half of swimsuit from last year with a tank top and sports bra for the pool. Needless to say after I got out of the pool, they looked like the copper tone kid’s swimsuit from back in the 60’s with the dog pulling on them advertisement. Thinking I could sew them at the seam? If I could find the sewing machine. Maybe get some more use out of them. Well that is what is going through my mind right now.
