Drinking after eating

I know this subject has come up from time to time about eating after drinking and if that counts with snacks as well. This video is really great in explaining why one needs to stick to the 30 minute rule. I think most of us know the reason but to see the visual example really brings it home. Watch here.

I always leave my water in another room when I eat or out of habit I will drink. However, most of the time if I drink too soon after eating I get horrible pains. This alone makes me wonder how people can.

OH MY GOD! I'll be honest, this is one of the things I have been slacking a bit on recently. The visual really puts things in perspective! I'll be putting my water bottle back in the fridge from now on when I eat!!

For RNY the reason not to drink fluids in the thirty min time before and after, is it flushes the food and nutrients are not absorbed as much. this is what the dietician explained to me.

I haven't found any great evidence or research that definitively states why someone should or shouldn't drink when eating post surgery. I think you can roll with whatever works best for you as an individual and be okay. I personally, will have a drink up to the point of my meal. I don't drink during my meal, and I usually wait until 30 mins after, but for me I feel more satiated longer when I don't drink right after. If I drink with the meal and immediately after (I've experimented on myself to experience the difference), I seem to get hungrier earlier, before the next meal.

That's just me though. I don't think that's what everyone should be doing. Just like the food we eat, once we get well into "normal" eating, we've got to figure out what works best for our individual system and what will maintain us for the long term. There is no one diet or order of eating that's going to apply to every single person. There are some basic tenets to follow, I think, but in general, two people could be doing wildly different thing and both experiencing great success.

It makes the food is pass to quickly through your body and you dont get the nutrients from your food

Almost all of the digestion and nutrient absorption is in the intestines, not the stomach, especially with a bypass since the stomach isn't involved at all other than sending digestive juices into the intestine. Drinking won't wash any of the nutrient absorption away. I have a feeling it's related more to satiety than any nutritional aspect of it

I thought I heard that somewhere too, good to know that's not the case that you don't miss the opportunity for nutrients to be absorbed. I do think though that it helps to not drink with satiety. That's why I like this group, lots of great discussions here and help sorting out the misinformation.
