Has anyone had a gastric bypass revision where the doctor does not adjust the pouch? I had this on 6/17 and recovery has been challenging. I haven't found much support for this specific type of surgery. Since my stomach was not touched, I'm still experiencing hunger but I'm having trouble satisfying it. I'm still on soft foods, but I have already pushed the food and eaten carbs with disastrous results. I spoke with my weightloss doctor and I might start a GLP-1, but I don't know if insurance will cover the cost. The surgeon would not predict weight loss and I finally understand why - this is very challenging in that the stomach can handle anything but the digestive track can't. There is no immediate feedback from my body telling me to not eat something.

Anyone have advice?

I had a gastric sleeve in 2021 and 2 years later had a D&S Loop that "rewired" my intestines after the weight loss stopped. Different from your procedure but the pouch was not touched in my 2nd surgery either.

I developed reactive hypoglycemia with the D&S loop so I need to be careful about carbs and sugars. I still have hunger and cravings but I tend to think my way out of eating something when I know my body will have trouble with it. I ask myself "How will I feel after eating this?" but if I still feel strongly that I want to eat it, I first have a Protein2O drink. This helps balance the sugar/carbs with protein which reduces the reactive hypoglycemia symptoms of shakiness, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, fatigue, and brain fog. The smarter choice might be to not eat that sugar/carb item in the first place, but I am also realistic so I found a solution that works for me.

On a side note, I learned from my doctor this week that Wegovy is now FDA approved to treat fatty liver disease and scarring. Not that I wish you liver problems but mine has not rebounded as well as expected over my 5 years of weight loss. If you have a secondary medical issue such as fatty liver, diabetes or sleep apnea you may be able to get the GLP-1 covered by insurance.

This is so helpful. Thank you! I'm slowly adjusting and learning what i simply can't eat. It's a journey. I haven't had significant weightloss yet but I'm hopeful that once I manage what to eat that I'll see results. It's been hard not understanding what my body is telling me but I'm slowly learning my new body language. My nutrionist recommended increasing my protein which seems to help. I have to keep reminding myself that it's 1 slow step at a time!
